The Idea
Create a dashboard for IEP managers to view monthly behavior data for students on their caseload. This dashboard was part of a longer project I proposed and implemented at the school where I worked at the time.
Background
The Special Education Department sent out monthly forms to the teachers of students with behavior goals. These forms were sent out by hand to the teachers of roughly 150 students. This meant that around 600 forms had to be sent out by hand each month. The data for each student was kept independently and lost each new school year. I proposed and implemented a system for automating our form distributing. Data was then collected and store in a single database.
The Dashboard
IEP managers regularly have to evaluate students' progress on their goals and make new plans and interventions based on their progress. I designed this dashboard to provide an easier and clearer way to check on students. The dashboard was connected to the database I created to provide up to date data. Stakeholders could now see how students progressed month to month and even look at what specific metrics students performed better or worse on.
The Results
The system for form distribution and data collection saved 20+ hours of work each month. It also created rich dataset where we could look into more complex trends. The Dashboard saved teachers time and improved their access to information. It took users a few months to get used to the Dashbaord but in the second year the it was accessed 200+ times, by 20 stakeholders to make decisions on 120+ students.
