A learning disability is a significant difficulty in the acquisition and use of listening skills, speaking, reading, writing, writing, reasoning, or math abilities despite average to above average intellectual abilities. It is presumed that learning disabilities occur due to nervous system functioning. Students will be able to deliver individual and group PowerPoint presentations and produce a well-developed research paper using proper citation style. Team as well as individual activities are incorporated (9 contact hours per week).

In this ESL module, students learn how to interview a classmate and write a profile, or short biography. The module includes reading and vocabulary lessons, listening and speaking exercises, writing practice and grammar lessons.

CHIN 10a Beginning Chinese I  

 Four class hours per week.

Mandarin is taught in this intensive course, intended for students with no previous knowledge of Chinese. Class meets four days per week plus one section of individual conversation. It offers training in basic Chinese grammar, speaking, aural comprehension, reading and writing. Chinese characters, and the "pinyin" phonetic system as a tool for learning Chinese. Usually offered every fall.

This four-skill African language course in second-semester Wolof leads toward proficiency in oral expression, listening comprehension, reading, cultural understanding, and writing (using both the Latin alphabet and the Arabic-based script known as Wolofal or Ajami). Effective Fall 2020, this course fulfills a single unit in the following BU Hub area: The Individual in Community.

This fourth semester Wolof course develops communicative competence, cultural literacy, and confidence in the language in reading, writing, speaking and listening. Students learn to communicate at an intermediate high level of proficiency.
