Hello everyone, and welcome to our blog!
My name is Ahmed, and I’m 55 years old. I’m of Egyptian and Belgian heritage and deeply passionate about Korea.
I’ve quit my job and donated all my belongings to go on a life-changing journey with my wife, Jenny. Since January 2025, we’ve been cycling from Belgium to South Korea, an adventure that has become our new way of life.
Although I was born in Belgium, I grew up in Kuwait and Egypt, and I’ve been fortunate enough to travel a lot throughout my life.
I’m fluent in French (my native language), English, Arabic, and Dutch. Some years ago, I started learning Korean, though I often find myself saying, “Sorry, but my Korean isn’t very good yet” 😄
Through this blog, I’d like to express my gratitude to my Korean friends who help me with difficult sentence translations.
My hobbies include traveling, hiking, cooking, writing, music, and billiards (snooker). But I’ve always had a deep love for cinema, and ever since I discovered Korean movies in 1999, I’ve been fascinated by Korea.
My name is Jenny, and I’m a 45-year-old French woman who also has a deep passion for Korea.
I too left my career as a Project Architect in Belgium and donated all my belongings to embark on this amazing cycling and hiking adventure from Belgium to South Korea, fulfilling our dream of exploring the world together.
I was born and raised in Alsace, studied architecture in Strasbourg, and moved to Belgium in 2004.
After our first trip to Korea, I discovered a passion for the Korean language. Although I still have a long way to go, I’ve been trying to keep learning ever since 😄
My hobbies include architecture, reading, cooking, and sports, especially swimming. Nature has always been a very important part of my life. These days, I find joy in spending time in the mountains and forests along our journey, surrounded by the beauty of the world.
Jenny and I have been together for over 20 years, and we make a very united couple.
We’ve had the opportunity to travel to many different countries.
When we first visited Korea in 2008, we fell in love with its people, culture, nature, and cuisine. Since then, Korea has become our only travel destination, hahaha. 😄
From 2008 to 2023, during seven trips to Korea, we traveled through 92 cities, visited 13 islands, and climbed 72 mountains and 127 peaks.
These are the places we visited during our seven trips to Korea
Every time, we tried to meet and connect with as many people as possible, and as a result, we’ve made lifelong Korean friends ❤️
While in Korea, we spent time hiking mountains, enjoying nature, meeting people, learning about the culture, tasting traditional food, and relaxing in jjimjilbangs (Korean spas).
Over the years, our visits to Korea have brought us countless happy memories.
Today, we are on our way to our country of heart; South Korea. Traveling there by bicycle, one pedal stroke at a time. This incredible journey is not just about distance, but about meaning: it’s our way of returning to the place that ignited the spark destined to change our lives forever.
Once we arrive, our dream is to cycle across the entire country, explore all its islands and official cycling routes, and hike Korea’s 100 most iconic mountains, sharing their beauty and spirit with the world 🌏
We hope that many people will follow our journey, and that when we finally reach Korea for our 8th visit, we’ll be greeted with the same warmth and kindness that made us fall in love with this country from the very beginning ❤️
