The Day Matters
My daughter is in one of her best friend’s wedding, that means dresses and all sorts of stuff. The bride’s sister was in charge of making the arrangements to get a time to try on the wedding dresses. Who even knew you had to make appointments weeks in advance to try on a wedding dress? But anyway, the sis did make the appointment and day and time was set. Sis emailed all involved about the date and time, except she e-mailed the incorrect day.
My daughter, probably the most responsible person I have ever met, made a hotel reservation as it was out of town, unfortunately a nonrefundable reservation. In week or so the sis discovered her mistake and corrected the date, but by then it was too late, my daughter already had a nonrefundable room in Denver on the wrong day.
You see where I am going here right? YHVH selected a date for a huge event, maybe one of the most important events in all of history. His invitation to the entire world was given to one Moshe of Midian nee Egypt nee the Desert to publicize. While there no doubt YHVH knew exactly which day He wanted, no one, not even Moshe knew at first and a series of events over the course of maybe 2 years would play out before the date was known.
Eventually Moshe was told that on the 10th day of the month of Nisan everyone was to go out into the fields and select out a lamb, a perfect spotless male lamb and take it home for 4 days. Then Moshe was told that one the 14th day of the month of Nisan a feast was to be held and the participants in the feast were to paint the door posts and lentil with the blood of the sacrificial lamb selected 4 days previous have a feast as described and await word.
After the sun set the night of the 14th and before midnight came word arrived that the feast partakers were to head out to a place called the mouth of the gorges. Well, you know the rest of the story, and it is a long one, but eventually ending on the exact same day 38 years later with the children of the original crew in the Promised Land as they recreated the feast that began the entire adventure. What do you suppose would happen to those who didn’t like the day and picked a different one or disregarded the instruction entirely?
Some 1500 years later on the same 10th day of Nisan the ancestors of these people were in the fields once again selecting a perfect spotless male lamb for use in the very same feast. But on that day a man, called the Lamb of Elohiym carrying the hopes and dreams of the entire world came riding into town on donkey.
The people already out in the field were there to meet Him and understood exactly who He was. The very fulfillment of the day when 1500 years earlier a miracle was about to happen. These people in the fields selecting their Lamb witnessed THE LAMB as He came into town and began crying out to Him Hosannah , Hosannah in the Highest. They began to lay palm branches and cloaks down for Him to walk on, and the religious leaders of the day were very angry and told the man on the donkey receiving the cheers of the people, to make the people be quiet. He said they could not for if they were silent the rocks would cry out in their place. More on these loudmouth stone tomorrow. 1400 and some years before as the people crossed the Yordan River into the Promised Land, they were set up as a testimony to this moment in the future in a place called Gilgal or cycle. This was the completion of a cycle hundreds of years in the making. On that exact day.
Then 4 days later on the Feast as the lambs were being slain, this man also was killed hanging on a Roman Cross for a crime he did not commit, just as innocent and perfect and spotless as the many lambs being killed on that day also. On that exact day.
Three days later was the Feast of First fruits, on that exact day the man on the donkey who would not quiet the crowd, who said the rocks would call out proclaiming This man and title, who was as innocent as the lambs killed three day earlier, rose from the grave conquering death for all who believe and becoming their First fruits. While any resurrection is unusual, it did happen to Lazarus, to the 500, to the widow’s child, and perhaps others, but this one was different. All of the others would die again, but not this man, He was to sit down at the right hand of YHVH and live forever, an unmistakable promise to all who choose to follow Him. On that exact day.
My daughter had to go back to Denver on the correct day, being there on the wrong day did her no good. We too have a choice, do we go to the place selected at the time and day instructed to see and reenact the most important events in human history, or do we pick our own day and time and call it good, having a lovely day in Denver but missing the main event?
