FIRST FRIDAYS FESTIVAL

FREE & OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Pasifika First Fridays is a Salt Lake City based art cooperative dedicated to celebrating Pacific Islander artists and art every first Friday of the month. Our monthly festival aims to unite Utah community members and give Pacific Islander artists the chance to perform, sell, or showcase their art.

We invite Pacific Islander artists living and working in the Salt Lake Valley to join the festival for an opportunity to meet the Pasifika First Fridays Creative Team, receive a free artist profile (including head shots), and apply to be featured in upcoming First Friday festivals. Sayloo

Sayloo is a punky reggae/island ska/r&b singer/songwriter. She is a Local singer/songwriter/musician/choreographer whose blend of punky reggae/Island Ska fused with Polynesian R &B establishes her as a diverse one of a kind musician in Salt Lake City's amazing arts and music scene.

Malialole

(Mah-lee-yah-loh-lay) is a Polynesian Music, Dance and arts school, ensemble and entertainment group. Malialole's mission is to perpetuate the Polynesian culture through song and dance while promoting cultural awareness of all Pacific Island People sharing stories of the past and present.It is the goal of Malialole to teach, build and connect the youth with the beautiful Polynesian culture and tradition of respect and love.

NuTribe

NuTribe is under the direction of Moana Aiono, Ofa Vahe and Teresa Kuma.

NuTribe is an all Polynesian hip-hop dance crew based out of Salt Lake City, Utah. We have open class for our Polynesian community every Thursday night at Just Dance Studio in Magna, Utah from10:00pm-midnight. We also have youth classes every Thursday from 8pm-9pm, follow @nutribe_kiddos for the location.

NuTribe is dedicated to helping our Polynesian community by providing an open space for our people to learn without ridicule and move without fear of judgment. We promise to facilitate an open loving environment and to always instill a sense of pride within our youth that they can do whatever they set their minds to. As Polynesian, our possibilities are endless.

Utah Raw Movement

This wildly talented crew is on a mission to help strengthen the dance community here in Utah. Not only do they host their own dance events, but they also support dance events across the entire state.

Kehaulani Hula Studio

Kēhaulani Hula Studio, under the care and guidance of Kumu Hula C.Pōmaikaʻi Gaui, is a place of learning for adult students of all ages, gender, and ethnicities to learn Hawaiian culture, language, and history through hula.

Soileti Hoko, SOSS Nails

Soileti Hoko is a very talented local jewelry artisan. She is also the owner of SOSS Nails. In a nutshell, SOSS is a marinade of influence from Tongan and American design, music, fashion and culture. Behind the brand are three American born and bred Tongan sisters based in Northern California and Utah.

Their accessories are the physical manifestations of their modern obsession with colors, shapes, and traditional oceanic roots.

Bill Louis

Bill was born on the island of Fiji in the city of Suva. His father is Fijian, Samoan and German. His mother is Tongan from Vava'u. As the 5th child of 6 children Bill grew up in Reno, NV. As a contemporary painter and graffiti artist, Bill's esthetic is influenced by a combination of West Coast Graffitti and classical artists such as Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, Vincent Van Gogh, and Paul Gauguin.

PHOTOGRAPHERS

Lauren Ulugia is a freelance writer and photographer of Samoan descent originally from Oahu. She's been involved with the Utah Pacific Island Film Series since 2016 and serves as a volunteer coordinator and community outreach. She is currently pursuing her lifelong dream of being a filmmaker and taking part in local Pacific Islander led organizations and events has been a vital component in her learning process. She loves her Pacific Islander community and is proud to celebrate and promote Pasifika artists while educating and engaging others.

Kyle is currently a student at UVU studying technology. He spends most of his time working for a software company, taking pictures, and spending time in the mountains. He's been exploring the world of photography for about a year now and plans to continue expanding his knowledge and skill set in the art of taking pictures. Kyle is a frequent concert goer, and his favorite shows would have to be the 3x he's seen his queen - Lana Del Rey. Others would describe Kyle's personality as humble, but also spicy.
