Hello and, welcome to our Science computer-aided enrichment center. We hope your brief detention in your relaxation vault has been a pleasant one! You'll be our test subject for the new enrichment center activity called Particle in a Box.
Particle in a Box is a game comprising series of puzzles with literally, a particle in a box. Do I really need to explain more?
Huh. You new test subjects... *sigh*
Your aim is to lead the particle out of the box through a series of puzzles ranging from easy-peasy to the ones which will make you doubt if you should take your PHY101 again. In every puzzle, the particle is trapped in a 2-D box and you have to go through various quests to help the particle out of the box. Each puzzle consists of some elements, which might be a gift from heavens or a curse from hell. As you advance through the game, you will get familiar with the various elements. So, let's get ready and start testing, FOR SCIENCE! The cake is waiting for you!
1. You can participate as a team of two or as an individual.
2. Click on "REGISTER HERE!" below to register for the event.
3. The event starts at 4 PM on 21st August. Set up a reminder, so you don’t miss it!
4. Keep checking the site for updates.
If you think you are smart enough to win prizes worth ₹700, come challenge your intellect on 21st August at 4 PM.
Hope to see you there!
If you want to know more about the game, here is an introduction to the game. It uses the knowledge of elementary physics to solve the puzzles. Depending on the type of puzzle, you might need to find the velocity or the angle of the ball such that its trajectory leads to the finish line, or collect some artifacts as a part of the puzzle. The puzzles are designed such that you will eventually get used to the mechanics of different elements in the game. A description of some elements of the game (by no means an exhaustive list) is given below:-
GRAVITY PIN- Depending on the type of puzzle, touching the gravity pin will modify the value of g (gravitational acceleration) depending on the rules of that specific level. Don't worry, we will make it very clear for every level of the game.
HOOPS- For some puzzles, you will have to decide your trajectories very carefully because there might be some "hoops" through which you would have to travel to complete the objective of the puzzle. The number of hoops can range from none to many.
PORTALS- The concept of portals might be new to you but is really easy to understand. The law of portals may be summarized as follows- "A particle entering the entry portal would instantaneously exit through the exit portal. The velocity of the particle with respect to the orientation of portal remains conserved."
The working of above elements can be summarized with the following image-
