Sungyong Park has been a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the College of Computing, Sogang University, since 1999. He is also affiliated with the Department of Artificial Intelligence. From February 2021 to January 2025, he served as the Director of the Institute of Information and Communication at Sogang University. Additionally, he was the Dean of the Graduate School of AI-SW from February to August 2021.
He earned his B.S. in Computer Science from Sogang University, South Korea, and completed his M.S. and Ph.D. in Computer Science from Syracuse University. From 1987 to 1992, he worked as a Research Engineer at LG Electronics, South Korea. Between 1998 and 1999, he was a Research Scientist at Bellcore, where he developed network management software for optical switches.
Currently, he leads the Data Intensive Computing and AI Systems Lab (DISCOS), conducting research in real-time streaming analytics, LLM serving optimization, LLM with RAG, resource management for the cloud-edge continuum, data pipeline optimization for big data and machine learning, high-performance I/O and storage systems, virtualization technologies, and embedded system software.
