PLEASE READ THIS PRIVACY POLICY CAREFULLY. BY REGISTERING FOR OR USING PARENTLAW, YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU HAVE READ AND UNDERSTOOD THIS PRIVACY POLICY, AGREE TO BE BOUND BY IT, AND CONSENT TO THE PROCESSING OF YOUR INFORMATION AS DESCRIBED BELOW. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE, DO NOT USE THE APP.
ParentLaw (the “App”) is operated by ThinkEdge Apps (“ThinkEdge Apps,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). We respect your privacy and collect and use personal information only to the extent necessary to provide you with the App and its features. This Privacy Policy applies to the ParentLaw mobile application and the related back-end services we operate, regardless of how you access or use them.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. The App is intended for users located in the United States and for use by adults (parents, guardians, and authorized family-law or related professionals) who are 18 years of age or older.
If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or your data, you can contact us at thinkedgeapps@gmail.com.
We may amend this Privacy Policy at any time by posting the revised version, with a new effective date, in the App or on our website. Your continued use of the App after a change takes effect means you accept the revised policy.
Personal information is information that identifies, relates to, or could reasonably be linked to a particular individual, such as a name, email address, phone number, or device identifier. Personal information does not include information that has been aggregated or anonymized so that it can no longer be used to identify a specific individual.
When you register for ParentLaw, we collect:
your name;
your email address;
your phone number (if you choose to provide one); and
your password (stored only in encrypted/hashed form — we never store your password in plain text).
We may also store basic preferences such as your selected language/theme and your role (for example, co-parent).
We collect and store information you voluntarily provide through the App so that we can deliver its features, including:
Messages you send and receive in the App's chat;
Voice and video call records — metadata about calls made through the App (such as the participants, time, type, and duration). We do not record the audio or video content of your calls, and we do not listen to or watch your calls;
Calendar events and schedules you create;
Expenses and shared-cost records (including amounts in U.S. dollars) you enter to track balances with the other parent;
Children's information you choose to add (such as a child's name and related details);
Files, notes, records, and photos you upload to your account;
Contacts / members you save in the App (people you choose to connect with for messaging and calls); and
any other information you voluntarily submit through the App where such information is required to use a feature.
This content is stored using industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest.
We use the information we collect to:
create, operate, and manage your account and verify your identity;
provide the App's core features — messaging, voice and video calling, calendar, expense tracking, records, and notifications;
send you service-related communications (such as push notifications for incoming calls or messages, and important account or security notices);
detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, security incidents, and technical problems;
maintain, improve, and develop the App, including analyzing aggregated, de-identified usage trends; and
comply with our legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
We share personal information only in the limited circumstances described below. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.
ParentLaw is designed for shared co-parenting. Information you choose to share within a shared space — such as messages, calendar events, expenses, and uploaded files — is accessible to the other parent(s) and any other members you have connected with in that space. You control what you share. Your password and private account credentials are never shared. Either parent may export the content they have access to (for example, to provide to an attorney, mediator, or court).
We share limited information with trusted third-party service providers who process data on our behalf and only as needed to operate the App, including:
Google Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google LLC) — to deliver push notifications and incoming-call alerts to your device; and
OneSignal — to deliver and manage push notifications.
These providers are bound by contractual obligations to protect your information and to use it only to provide services to us, in accordance with their own privacy policies (Google; OneSignal).
We may disclose information when we believe in good faith that it is necessary or appropriate to: comply with applicable law, a subpoena, court order, or other legal process; enforce our Terms of Service; protect our rights, property, or safety, or those of our users or the public; or detect, prevent, or address fraud, security, or technical issues. Records we may be required to produce in response to valid legal process can include chat conversations, call detail records, account login records, and session logs (including IP addresses and device operating system).
If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will require the successor entity to honor this Privacy Policy or a substantially similar policy, and we will notify you of any material change in how your information is handled.
Voice and video calls in the App are established directly between participants using peer-to-peer (WebRTC) technology. We operate a signaling service only to help connect the two devices; we do not record, monitor, listen to, or watch the audio or video content of your calls. We retain call detail records (metadata such as participants, time, type, and duration) to provide your call history.
In-app messages are stored so they can be delivered and displayed to the participants of a shared space. Except as required to respond to valid legal process (Section 4.3), we do not monitor the content of your messages.
The App is intended for use by adults. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. A parent or guardian may, at their discretion, enter information about their own child (such as a child's name, schedule, or related details) to use the App's co-parenting features. By entering a child's information, you represent that you are the child's parent or legal guardian and that you consent, on the child's behalf, to our processing of that information to provide the App. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child in a manner not permitted by law, please contact us at thinkedgeapps@gmail.com and we will delete it.
We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to provide the App and for a reasonable period afterward to fulfill the purposes described in this Policy, including maintaining security, keeping appropriate business and legal records, and complying with our legal obligations. If you delete your account, we will delete or de-identify your personal information, except that:
communications you shared with another parent may remain associated with that parent's account for as long as their account is active; and
we may retain certain information where required by law or where reasonably necessary in connection with a legal claim, dispute, or investigation.
When retention is no longer required, we securely delete or anonymize the information.
We use generally accepted technical and administrative safeguards to reduce the risks of loss, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure, and alteration of your information, including encryption of data in transit and at rest, firewalls, and access controls. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
When you sign in to ParentLaw, you remain signed in until you sign out. If you use a shared device, we recommend signing out when you finish, because anyone using that device while you are signed in may be able to view your account and take certain actions. You can end your session at any time by signing out from within the App.
You can access and update your account information (such as your name, email, or phone number) by signing in to the App. You can delete your account at any time from within the App; if you need help, contact us at thinkedgeapps@gmail.com.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
Correction — request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
Deletion — request that we delete your personal information (for example, by deleting your account); and
Opt-out of marketing — ask us to stop sending non-essential promotional communications. (You will still receive service-related messages.)
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at thinkedgeapps@gmail.com. We will respond to verifiable requests within the time required by applicable law.
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what categories of personal information we collect, the purposes for which we use it, and the categories of third parties with whom we share it; to request access to and deletion of your personal information; to correct inaccurate information; and not to be discriminated against for exercising your rights. We do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. To make a request, email us at thinkedgeapps@gmail.com.
The App may contain links to third-party websites or services that we do not own or control. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those third parties. Please review the privacy policy of any third-party site or service you visit.
The App and our servers are operated in connection with services located in the United States. The App is intended for users in the United States, and your information is processed in accordance with this Privacy Policy and U.S. law.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, provide notice within the App. Your continued use of the App after the changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised Policy.
