Effective date: July 15, 2026
1. Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how ParaScope (the "App") accesses, uses, stores, and shares information. ParaScope is an Android paranormal-investigation recording and review tool.
The current version is designed primarily for local, on-device use. ParaScope does not require a user account and does not include advertising or third-party analytics.
2. Information ParaScope Accesses or Creates
Microphone and audio data. With permission, ParaScope accesses the selected built-in, wired, Bluetooth, or USB microphone to record investigation audio, display a waveform, provide optional live monitoring, create evidence clips, and perform on-device transcription and sound classification.
Investigation information. Users may enter or create investigation locations, session names, investigator names, notes, markers, evidence labels, recognition corrections, transcripts, environmental observations, and investigation summaries.
Device location. If the user chooses the automatic environmental-conditions feature, ParaScope requests approximate or precise device location to obtain coordinates for weather information. ParaScope does not continuously track location and does not request background location access.
Environmental data. ParaScope may retrieve weather information, lunar phase calculations, and publicly available solar or geomagnetic activity information for an investigation summary.
Technical files. ParaScope creates local audio recordings, evidence clips, timeline information, waveform samples, transcripts, reports, and ZIP export packages necessary to provide its features.
3. How Information Is Used
ParaScope uses the information above only to provide features selected by the user, including recording and replay, live audio monitoring, offline transcription, sound recognition, evidence review, investigation organization, report generation, environmental-condition retrieval, and user-directed export or sharing.
Automated transcripts and sound labels are investigative aids and may be inaccurate. Users should verify them against the original audio.
4. On-Device Processing and Storage
Audio transcription and sound classification are performed locally on the device using offline models. Investigation recordings, transcripts, notes, investigator names, markers, evidence decisions, labels, and recognition corrections are stored locally in the App's private storage.
ParaScope does not automatically upload investigation recordings, transcripts, evidence, or reports to a server operated by the developer.
ParaScope excludes investigation recordings, saved evidence clips, and its main investigation records from Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer. Android may still back up limited non-evidence App data according to the user's Android and Google backup settings. The developer does not control or operate Android's backup service.
These backup exclusions do not prevent user-directed exports, USB transfers, email or cloud sharing, ZIP packages, or transfers to ParaScope Review Lab.
5. Internet Services and Third Parties
Open-Meteo. When the user requests automatic environmental conditions, ParaScope sends latitude and longitude coordinates to the Open-Meteo weather service over HTTPS and receives weather information. Open-Meteo's handling of requests is governed by its terms and privacy practices: https://open-meteo.com/en/terms
NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center. ParaScope may request publicly available planetary K-index information over HTTPS. The request does not include investigation coordinates, recordings, transcripts, investigator names, or notes. NOAA's handling of web requests is governed by its privacy policy: https://www.noaa.gov/privacy-policy
Android sharing destinations. When a user chooses Share Report or Export Investigation Package, Android displays compatible apps and services. ParaScope sends the selected report or ZIP package only after the user chooses a destination. The recipient's privacy practices then apply.
Like most internet services, Open-Meteo, NOAA, a network provider, or a selected sharing service may receive routine connection information such as an IP address as part of processing a request.
6. Sharing and Sale of Information
ParaScope does not sell personal information.
ParaScope does not share investigation content with advertisers or data brokers.
Investigation content is shared only when the user deliberately uses an export or sharing feature. The developer may disclose information only if legally required and only to the extent the developer actually possesses that information. Because the current App does not automatically upload investigation content to the developer, the developer ordinarily does not possess users' recordings or investigation files.
7. Data Retention and Deletion
Locally stored investigations remain on the device until the user deletes a session or investigation, clears the App's data, or uninstalls the App. Deleting an investigation removes its saved session information, audio recordings, and evidence clips from the App's local storage.
Temporary export packages are stored in the App's cache and may be replaced or removed by ParaScope or Android. Copies already shared to email, cloud storage, FTP, another device, or another app are controlled by the user and the receiving service.
ParaScope currently has no user accounts and no developer-operated cloud database. Therefore, there is no online account or cloud investigation record for the developer to delete.
8. Permissions and User Choices
Microphone permission is required for recording, waveform input, transcription, sound classification, and live monitoring.
Location permission is optional and is used only when the user requests automatic environmental conditions. Users may deny location permission and manually enter environmental information instead.
Internet access is used for optional weather and solar-activity requests. Core recording, offline transcription, sound classification, review, and local storage features are designed to work without an internet connection.
Users can change App permissions through Android Settings and can choose whether, where, and with whom to share exported files.
9. Security
ParaScope uses Android private App storage for investigation files and HTTPS for weather and solar-activity requests. Exported files are temporarily shared through Android's secure file-sharing mechanism.
No storage or transmission method is completely secure. Users are responsible for securing their phones, exported files, email accounts, cloud storage, FTP servers, and other destinations they choose.
10. Recording Other People
Audio recordings may contain voices and other personal information about investigators, property owners, visitors, or bystanders. Users are responsible for obtaining any consent required by applicable recording, privacy, trespass, and property laws before recording or sharing investigation material.
11. Children
ParaScope is not designed for children and is intended for users aged 16 and older. The developer does not knowingly collect personal information from children through a developer-operated service.
12. Changes to This Policy
This policy may be updated as ParaScope changes. The effective date will be revised when material changes are made. If future versions add accounts, cloud backup, crash reporting, analytics, advertising, video, or other network services, this policy and the App's disclosures will be updated before those features are released.
