Wenge

(Millettia laurentii)

Another heavy and dense wood that is highly durable and resistant to insect attack. Upon finishing the wood takes on a dark to almost completely black finish. The wood can be difficult to work and sharp tools are a must. The wood splinters easily and care should be taken to remove splinters before infection occurs. Wenge is typically used in high end flooring, furniture, inlays and often used as a substitute for the harder to obtain ebony.

Normally stock 4/4, 8/4 thick lumber.

Specific Gravity is around .82
