Milo

(Thespesia populnea)

Milo has a dark rich brown heartwood with a sharply contrasting lighter sapwood. Moderately heavy wood that works well and finishes beautifully. The wood contains an oil that makes it difficult to use oil based varnishes, but can accept lacquers well. Hawaiians used the wood to carve out beautiful bowls and is frequently used today in the turning of bowls, carvings and turning of pens and other items.

Only short pieces currently.

Specific Gravity is around .53
