A very heavy and dense wood, IPE is not easily worked with hand tools and sharp tools are necessary to get a good cut. Pre-boring is necessary for nailing and screwing. The wood is highly resistant to insect attack and decay. Used typically in decking, flooring, boat building, tool handles, archery bows and many other applications that require a hard durable material.
