Physics allows us to model reality and study useful operational tasks we can perform:
how to use energy (thermodynamics), measure precisely (metrology), compute and communicate (information theory), certify resources with minimal assumptions (secure protocols), et cetera.
Here is what I do:
I try to understand the limits of operational tasks arising from quantum physics.
I try to understand the foundations of quantum physics by studying operational tasks.
I try to enjoy beautiful math in the meanwhile.
My path so far
I am a Senior Postdoc (ESPRIT fellow) working at the Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information of Vienna (Austria).
I received my PhD ("la Caixa" fellow) at ICFO - The Institute of Photonic Sciences (Spain).
Previously I studied at Scuola Normale Superiore and University of Pisa (Italy).
In the years I also spent some time at:
University of Oxford, University of Geneva, California Institute of Technology, University of Tokyo.
