Terms of competition
Participants of the Competition may be students of higher education institutions (Student category), as well as young designers, graduates, students of private graphic design schools, font courses, etc. (Private category).
The Competition is organized in three stages:
- qualifying (held in higher education institutions among students who wish to participate in the Competition);
- intermediate (admission of works, registration of participants, selection of works by the Organizing Committee of the Competition, formation of the list of participants);
- final (jury work, announcement of results).Works can be performed in Cyrillic, Latin or other system of the letter of choice of the participant, unless it is emphasized in special conditions by nominations.
Each participant has the right to submit up to 3 works in each nomination together with the competition application. The competition application is a completed Google form in English with the competition work downloaded in accordance with the technical requirements (each work not exceeding 5 MB is accepted as a separate application) [1]. No author name is allowed at work! Digital file name: Surname_Nomination (for example, Teslenko_A, Teslenko_E). If several work, then the numbers are added (Teslenko_A-1, Teslenko_Н-2). Files that do not technically correspond to the declared nominations will not be considered.
[1] The processing of personal data is carried out in accordance with the requirements of the Law of Ukraine "On Personal Data Protection". The works of the participants can be used by the Organizing Committee in order to promote the Contest while preserving the copyright of the participant.
Works admitted to participation in the Competition must have a high level of presentation, relevant nominations and must comply with ethical norms.
General criteria for selection of works: • originality of the idea; • ideological component; • compositional expressiveness; • compliance with the terms of the Competition; • aesthetic appeal; • technical performance.Winners are awarded with of diplomas I–III degrees in each nomination, as well as diplomas-honors from members of the international jury. Аll the participants get certificates. The winners may also be awarded honors from the partners of the Competition, awards from the Organizing Committee, partners of the Competition. Participation in the competition is free of charge.
The participant guarantees the authorship of his works. Plagiarism is unacceptable.
The requirements for nominations
А. CALLIGRAPHY
Required components of the project: phrases, text.
Technique: calligraphic tools and color scheme range are selected by the participant.
Specifications: a digital version of the original work is sent. The file format is vertical or horizontal, 300×400 mm, JPG, 200-300 dpi, RGB.
B. LETTERING
Required components of the project: sign, monogram, word, phrase.
Technique (final work): the image is black and white.
Specifications: horizontal or vertical format, 400×300 mm, JPG, 200-300 dpi, Grayscale.
C. ART ALPHABET
Writing system: one of the participant's choice.
Required components of the project: alphabet in capital letters. Numbers and minimum punctuation marks are welcome.
Readability: low.
Purpose: use of discrete letters, composing words and short titles.
Technique and material of the participant's choice (gouache, plasticine, cardboard, improvised materials, computer, etc.). The letters are made by hand: they are drawn, cut out, composed of something, and so on. A digital version of the original work is sent to the Competition (letters are translated into a digital file by scanning, photography, etc. and composed in a graphics program).
Presentation: the composition is free, but with the order of the letters of the alphabet. The general subject of the letters is not limited to the competition, they can be self-sufficient like letters: plot, subject, anthropomorphic, and so on. Color scheme of the participant's choice.
Specifications: the format is vertical, 300×400 mm, JPG, 200-300 dpi, RGB.
D. DECORATIVE FONT
Writing system: one of the participant's choice.
Required components of the project: alphabet (only capital or only lowercase letters), numbers, basic punctuation marks.
Readability: average.
Purpose: composing short phrases.
Execution technique: graphic programs (Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw, etc.). Execution in the font editor is possible.
Presentation: the composition is free on one sheet, preserving the order of the letters of the alphabet. Color scheme of the participant's choice.
Specifications: vertical format, size 600×900 mm, JPG, 200-300 dpi, RGB.
E. DISPLAY FONT
Writing system: one of the participant's choice. The second writing system is welcome.
Required components of the project: alphabets (uppercase and lowercase letters), numbers, and a complete set of characters to provide digital typing.
Readability: medium, high.
Purpose: for headings, small blocks of text.
Execution technique: exclusively font editor (Fontlab, Fontforge, Glyphs, etc.). The font is developed in the Unicode system.
The presentation: the composition is free, but it is necessary to present a block of a complete set of characters on a light background. The font must have a name. In other visual blocks, demonstrate the possibilities of using the font (words, sentences and / or text on the theme of the competition), the color scheme of the participant's choice.
Specifications: vertical format, size 600×900 mm, JPG, 200-300 dpi, RGB.
F. TEXT FONT
Writing system: two at the participant's choice (for example, Cyrillic + Latin; Latin + hieroglyphs; Latin + Devanagari and other writing systems).
Required components of the project: a complete set of characters to provide typing (capital and lowercase letters of alphabets, numbers, punctuation, symbols, ligatures, etc.). For non-alphabetic systems, the volume is allowed: up to 80 characters of compound writing and up to 200 characters for ideographic. Weight: Regular
Readability: high.
Purpose: digital set of large blocks of text.
Execution technique: exclusively font editor (Fontlab, Fontforge, Glyphs, etc.). The typeface is developed in the Unicode system.
Presentation: the font is presented on a single sheet of basic size 600×900 mm, which can be divided into horizontal blocks with a step of 300 mm in height (for example, three blocks 600×300, or one block 600×300 + 600×600). The Regular should be presented on a white background in a large font and in full, with a piece of the text 12, 14 and 16 pt. within the competition subject. Other blocks demonstrate the possibility of using the typeface in a different pt. (font name, words, sentences, other typefaces, etc.), the color scheme of the participant's choice. If necessary, this information can be displayed with an increase in the height of the sheet in steps of 300 mm.

G. FONT POSTER
Visual interpretation of the subject of the Competition by means of typography. Color scheme of the participant's choice.
Specifications: vertical format, size 600×900 mm, JPG, 200-300 dpi, RGB.
H. MOTION TYPE
Required components of the project: visual interpretation of the subject of the Competition by means of typography and calligraphy.
Specifications: MP4 FullHD (1920x1080) 25 fps. Duration 30–40 seconds.
Conducting the Competition
Competition submissions begin: March 1, 2024
Deadline for submitting works: April 30, 2024
The Google form for registration and uploading works is posted on the Competition website.
Selection of works, formation of short-list: May 01–07.
Work of the Appeals Commission: starts from the moment of publication of the results of the intermediate stage of the Competition and continues until the jury of the final stage begins.
The work of the International jury: from May 10 to May 21.
The results should be announced by the end of May 2024.
The Organizing Committee has the right to adjust the dates of the intermediate and final stages of the Competition.
