Shaye Amundson Memorial Tournament

On behalf of the host committee  of the 4th Shaye Admundson Memorial Softball Tournament, we extend our appreciation to our volunteers and  participating teams that  made this event another  success. It was a memorable weekend filled with camaraderie, sportsmanship, and heartfelt remembrance.

To the community of Prince Albert and the fans who cheered on their favourite teams, your presence added an extra layer of excitement to the tournament.

This weekend was not only about softball; it was a celebration of Shaye's life and legacy.  It was a special moment to finally retire her #2 jersey with her family and former team mates present. By commemorating her memory through this tournament, we honored her passion for the sport and her enduring impact on the local softball community. Shaye's love for softball and life continues to inspire us all, and we are honored to keep her memory alive through this annual event.

As we reflect on the weekend , we are excited by the growth of this tournament and we look forward to carrying on Shaye's legacy in the years to come.

Once again, thank you to each and every one of you for making the 4th Shaye Admundson Memorial Softball Tournament a weekend to remember. Your generosity, kindness, and sportsmanship exemplify the true spirit of softball in our community.

Curtis Bradbury

Shaye Amundson Tournament Coordinator

2023 U15 Boy's Canadian Fast Pitch Championship

The teams have come and gone, charter buses pulled out, flights departed, umpires have packed up their gear and headed home, tarps have been folded and packed away, the volunteers have gone home to catch up on sleep with smiles on their faces, the bleachers are quiet and the diamonds sit empty. But what remains are all the memories from when Prince Albert hosted the 2023 U15 Boy’s Canadian Fast Pitch Championships.  The last week has been a buzz of activity at the ballpark as ten teams from across Canada battled it out to become Champions.  Only three teams received medals but each team should be proud of their successes.

The five-day tournament was squished into four days as we had a complete rainout Thursday - not a single pitch was thrown. The host committee and volunteers did not let this downpour of rain put a damper on this event. They did whatever was needed to get things back on track - early mornings and late nights under the lights! Looking back, every minute spent was worth it to put on this first-class event!  I can still hear the cheerful banter of chanting in the bleachers, “Loooooooonghooooorns” “Neeeeeewwwfiiiieees”!

Congratulations to all ten teams for putting in the time and effort to get to this event. The level of sportsmanship and fair play, shown by these teams, has excited younger athletes to grow up and hope to be in their cleats someday. It also allowed the adults to be brought back to their younger years of playing.  Those who showed up at the ballpark did it all for the love of the game!!  Sport brings people together and we look forward to running into you on, or off, the diamonds. Until we meet again friends!
