Palayok [noun] pot; clay pot; earthen ware pot; clay bowl.
Palayok Ni Iya is a home-based woman-led small business that is dedicated to making delicious home-cooked Asian dishes. My menu is dominated with traditional Filipino dishes and desserts that will remind you of home-cooked meals and bring fond memories of the Philippines from your childhood. The menu also features other Asian dishes (Korean, Chinese, Japanese) with my own twists.
Palayok Ni Iya is located in Plainfield, Illinois.
ESPASOL [noun] a cylinder-shaped Filipino rice cake. Originating from the province of Laguna, it is traditionally sold during the Christmas season. It is made from rice flour cooked in coconut milk and sweetened coconut strips and, afterwards, dusted with toasted rice flour
It all began with the search for tasty espasol. Growing up in Laguna I knew the taste that I wanted and was looking for and when I felt like I couldn't find a version of espasol that I liked, I went on a journey to find a recipe I will love.
My friends and family had first hand access the version I made and from there word spread. People started asking about how they can order from me and the idea of "Palayok Ni Iya" began.
When I started conceptualizing Palayok Ni Iya's menu I wanted to create dishes that will allow people to experience Filipino food with my own twists on them. When I thought about making sisig I wanted to have a unique take on it that isn't the typical pork sisig, that's when the the second best seller of Palayok ni Iya was born --- TOFU SISIG.
This dish is by default made with chicharon (pork rinds) to create texture and additional flavor and has become a very popular crowd pleaser during parties. Palayok Ni Iya's tofu sisig may also be ordered with vegetarian chicharon (crunchy pea/soy based cracklings) allowing people to serve this dish to non-meat eating guests.
