The Palatial Studies Research Network (PSRN) brings together scholars investigating the archaeology of palatial environments across periods and regions. It provides a collaborative platform for exploring the architecture, spatial organisation, infrastructure, and lived realities of courtly and elite residences, from their construction and use to their transformation over time. By fostering dialogue between archaeological, historical, and scientific approaches, the network aims to advance comparative research, methodological innovation, and a more integrated understanding of how palatial complexes functioned as dynamic, inhabited systems.
The Network aims to:
connect researchers working on palaces, courts, royal, imperial and episcopal residences, administrative centres, and related landscapes across different chronological periods and geographical regions;
encourage comparative research into the transmission, adaptation, and transformation of palatial ideas and practices across regions and periods;
promote dialogue between archaeology, history, architectural history, art history, heritage studies, and relevant scientific and digital approaches;
provide an inclusive international forum in which established scholars, early-career researchers, postgraduate students, heritage professionals, and independent researchers can exchange ideas and develop collaborations;
In pursuit of these objectives, the Network aims to:
organise online talks devoted to palatial environments
