I remember the night my squat-mates and I stumbled into what was called the birdcage – for the graffiti around the window well, a room in a warehouse with a communal kitchen, full of skipped food. It also had a long stack-pipe on its side, flanked either side by couches and seats, exhausting smoke from a woodstove out the side of the warehouse wall. Lankum were playing on the couches, and there were many people gathered around drinking tea and coffee, or eating a bowl of vegetable stew.
There was movie nights, a free shop, Words in the warehouse started off here, all kinds of things, and always friendly company. Such great memories. There's the robot that went over the wall one day! Gas
