Furthermore, how do drawing tablets work on PDN? Does it act as a mouse or will I need a mouse to select tools and other features? If I press the pen against the tablet will it automatically start drawing on the canvas or is that a limitation?

CSP is a versatile digital painting program great for painting and inking with many unique features.

One of my favourites is the perspective ruler which is super useful and convenient for planning or drawing backgrounds!

I just started using gimp last night and I was making a drawing but I kept running into these issues where the paint brush would be painting in a color different than the one I had selected. The first time it was on an image where I rotated the colors to be more green and for some reason when I tried to draw in white, it would come out pink.

oil paint thinned with medium, I use a thin quick drying alkyd and a color like ultramarine blue, sienna, or umber, with small thin brushes. drawing with oil paint is a bit slower so take your time, but erasing mistakes or changing the drawing is so easily done with a rag damp with spirits.

your sketchings look great!

Thanks all for the prompt replies! I tried graphite pencil but could hardly see the marks it made on the oil (and it was 6b). Also, there is quite a bit of texture so the pencil tends to skip over the low parts. I will try the thinned oil paint and a fine brush this afternoon.

Annie. I once used an oil based pen for this and it would not cover but kept bleeding to the surface, even after applying multiple layers of paint over months. For me it pretty much ruined the picture.

You can make any shape you want by adding a mesh shape to your object, selecting it and unwrapping by Project to View, scale and position the resulting UV in the UV editor in relation to the rest of your UV, and then paint it in the 3d view using Face Selection Masking. Not perfect, but actually quite useful. You can delete the mesh after and go about your manual painting process again if you want, or you can separate by selection so that you can hide it from view.

They have pland for much better PBR painting in future but no real code yet, but i hope master Pablo&others will do something after sculpt at least if not sooner. Maybe some more companies will donate Money or even better, developers to work on PBR Paint. Lets see what future brings.

I paint oils over acrylic. I first sketch the painting in shades of gray acrylic. I usually confine myself to 8 shades. Then I will paint all the features of the painting in complimentary tones using acrylic. Then I do the oils over the complimentary acrylics. I never lay a pencil to a canvas.

Why not do your drawing as usual, then go over your lines with thinned paint on a liner brush? That would be a good transition from what you are now doing. Eventually, you may feel comfortable enough with the brush to just use it and skip the pencil.

i begin with a detailed values painting (grisaille) using a mixture of burnt siena and a little burnt umber. after mixing the color, i mix 10 parts tups to 2 parts linseed oil, making a wash with the mixed color. i coat the entire support with a middle value of this wash mixture using either soft cloth or paper towels. even covering is important.

I recently started keeping my iron oxide and lead white turps in a container separate from all my other paint slop. I filter it through coffee filters, and add a whack of calcium carbonate, then grind it into a very lean linseed oil.

I recomend making your own transfer paper using actual oil paint. Pick the color you want and apply it thinly and evenly to the back of a drawing or copy. Tape it into place and trace the lines with a hard pencil(5H) or ball point pen. The paint lines can be diffused or wiped off as needed. This is my method. I may have invented it, because I have never seen anyone else use it. Works perfectly.

lol

Belive this or not i actually almost always use pencil for my underpainting and yes there is a way that it dosnt show through i just simply draw whatever i am going to paint on the canvas then i get a can of spray varnish let it dry and go to work simple as that:D

I agree with Artman. When I first started taking lessons in oils 30+ years ago, my teacher taught me to use a graphite pencil to sketch on the canvas. After getting the form down to whatever degree I felt comfortable with, we sprayed the canvas with a clear Krylon spray. I have paintings that are 30+ years old that do not have any ill effects from this.

There may be a better way of doing it today but that still works.

Jerry:D

i am with reye also graphite works just fine no problems,it would be a problem if you didnt use spray varnish though, belive it or not the spray on the canvas gives it a better surface to paint on i think.plus using pencil you wont have to use as much oils for your underpainting:D

I come from an Objective-C background and I have been developing on the iOS and Mac OS platform for a number of years now. I love the concept of custom drawing and therefore I would like to replicate what had been done by me on the aforementioned platform.

In iOS I would call -drawRect() to draw a custom view and then, I could go ahead and add other visual components on top of that drawing. I know that there are equivalents in java swing and awt called paint() and paintComponent(). However, I am not quite sure how the drawing goes about. I do not know when to call the super method (beginning or end ?) and how to add other components to the custom drawn component (custom drawing sometimes appears on top, sometimes beneath).

I have been struggling with this for last few days and decided to get expert help here. I have drawing like below (original art is more complex) which was created using brush strokes (no built-in shape objects). I am trying to paint/draw inside using brush strokes just like "draw inside" feature of Illustrator. As it works for closed shapes so I thought making sure all lines are connected will suffice, but it didn't.

I have also tried coloring the background in another layer and using this drawing as clipping mask by Object>Compound Path>Make but it didn't help either. I am new to clipping mask so not sure if there is another way.

Edit: Billy's answer is perfect and I was able to do this quickly as a test. I can paint in multiple shapes like face, body, hair now. Just created a duplicate layer of drawing to keep my lines still there.

The bigger the canvas the better the quality. Looking back at my old drawings with a smaller canvas the quality was really bad. Not I usually keep my canvases between 2500x2500 and 3000x3000.

Brushes: Dip Pen (Hard) Is good for outlining. (Make sure stabilizer is on and cut all the way up) Dip Pen (Soft) Is good for outlining lips and eyes, also eyelashes. You should take long strokes when drawing since the lines come out neater

Microsoft Paint is also known as MS Paint. It is a basic graphics drawing program that has been an indispensable part of all versions of the Microsoft Windows operating system. MSP provides easy ways for creating different types of graphics with different tools. The tools include brushes, shape generators, pens, and erasers. Many users of Windows might also be unaware of its presence, considering the popularity of web-based graphics creation tools. So, you need to know exactly from where to access MS Paint.

When we got the first computer on our hands, as a kid, we were intrigued with MS paint. It was the one application that made us aware that digitally we could unleash our creativity. All of us, especially the 90s kids were a bit disheartened when we learned that Microsoft will stop supporting MS paint very soon, in order to promote Paint 3D, that comes with windows 10. Although Paint is still available in Windows, eventually Microsoft plans to remove it permanently and only keep it as a Windows store product for users who still wants to use MS Paint.

The Department of Painting and Drawing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) is home to a diverse range of conceptual and material approaches. It is an open, pluralistic community with a primary emphasis on experimental consideration for painting and drawing in the 21st century.

Diverse and dedicated faculty, consisting of more than 70 working artists whose work appears in galleries and museums across the globe. Collectively their various practices embody a wide array of conceptual and material models for painting and drawing.

The Drawing and Painting Area fosters an environment of exploration and promotes a variety of approaches to art making, ranging from traditional media, such as oil paint on canvas, to experimental tactics that challenge the idea of tradition and blur boundaries between media

Students working towards a Studio Arts degree can select drawing or painting as their area of emphasis. The diverse faculty in the Drawing and Painting Area are working contemporary artists whose professional practices operate within the tradition while, at the same time, challenging the boundaries of drawing and painting.

The area also offers a concentrated degree in drawing and painting in the form of a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA). This is a highly competitive degree and students must apply to the BFA program with a portfolio that displays a unique vision, internal drive, and advanced understanding of practice that sets them apart from the average studio arts major. Once accepted into the BFA program, students will be expected to develop technical proficiency in their media, engage in a critical dialog with their peers, investigate the conceptual underpinning of their own ideas and interests, and work closely with the full-time faculty. Every BFA student will be assigned a faculty mentor. This degree is intended for students that believe they want to be a professional in the arts community. 17dc91bb1f
