The paint brush tool works normally upon starting up Affinity Photo, but after executing actions such as changing the brush, color, or swapping to another tool and then back to the brush, the paint brush tool will often enter a state where it will allow me to draw only straight lines. The mouse itself it still able to move freely, but when attempting to draw even a simple curve, a straight line will be drawn instead, starting from where the mouse initially was and ending at where the mouse stopped.

Disabling Windows Ink doesnt really solve the problem, since it disables very basic function of having pen pressure on my tablet and therefore just switching to even more severe problem for someone who uses the program for drawing and painting.

I am trying to use the paintbrush tool to draw something that I need to appear on all the images in the imported stack. However, it only draws to the currently displayed image. Is there a way to get what I draw to be on all the slices?

Hi Sara, when I use the overlay brush I see the overlay on every image in the stack and I can flatten it (ctrl+shift+f) to every image or a single image by choice. If, on the other hand, I use the regular paintbrush the pixel values are changed directly, this is not an overlay and will only appear on the one image.

worse, both the pencil tool and the paint brush tool continue drawing line well after i've lifted my tablet pen. the worst instance was just now - i was creating a simple stroke with the paint brush tool, and after lifting my tablet pen, the stroke continued to follow my pen around the whole screen (the pen was not touching the tablet screen). i wasn't able to click out of the tool, even, and had to keyboard smash to escape the stroke. the result was a huge, single-line mess of squiggles.

the smaller (though incredibly time-wasting) issue of the brush tool's strokes being displaced after lifting the has been going on for a while. the pencil tool has always been screwed up like this for me, between 2 different pen computers on which every other adobe drawing program draws perfectly fine.

Once all drawn in pencil, students traced over their pencil lines with an ultra fine point black sharpie. I showed students how to use the straight edge of a scrap piece of paper to keep their sharpie lines for the bristles from going into their paintbrush handles.

Students finished drawing if needed, then used a black oil pastel to draw a thick line along only one side of each brush. Only on all the brushes left sides or only on all the brushes right sides. Then using one finger gently smudge the oil pastel going in the same direction to create a shadow.

On the final day students used watercolors to create the splatter effect. I showed them how to use a watercolor brush to apply the paint only halfway up each brush towards the tips, and then add only water on the ends a little to dilute the color and help spread the paint where it meets the paper. Then using a medium sized tempera brush, they dipped into the same paint color and then flicked the bristles close to their papers to splatter. They also used the watercolor brush to splatter paint as well by shaking it or tapping their brush handle against another one.

The new Paint Brush tool in Animate brings the capability of using Art Brushes and Pattern brushes, as commonly known in Adobe Illustrator, within Animate. Paint Brush tool is based on strokes and is different from the existing Brush tool.

Art brushes paint a vector pattern along the path and stretches to its entire length. A set of Art Brush Presets are available by default for using them directly within your Animate project. These presets are accessible in the Brush Library of the Properties panel, when the Paint Brush tool is selected in the Tools panel.

Double click on any pattern brush in the Brush Library to add to the document. Once added to the document, it is listed in the Stroke Style drop down in the Properties panel.

When using Art Brushes, the Drawing Object mode is enabled by default so that each brush stroke is drawn independently and do not merge with the existing strokes causing undesirable stroke intersections. You can see better performance when you use Object drawing mode compared to Merged drawing mode because brush strokes typically contain heavy vector data and merging of shapes may cause Animate to perform slower.

Animate provides Pressure and Tilt support for strokes drawn using the Paint brush tool. You can draw art and pattern strokes with variable width, dependent on the applied pressure or tilt on the stylus. For further refinement, use the Width tool to adjust the width points.

Select Paint brush tool and select the icon from the tool bar to enable pressure sensitivity or select the icon to enable tilt sensitivity. The default percentage values are 1% and 100% corresponding to the minimum and maximum values of Pressure/Tilt.

You can edit art brush properties using the Edit Brush option. Clicking the Edit Brush icon launches the Brush editing dialog box for the selected brush. If you select an Art Brush for editing, the Art Brush Options dialog box appears. You can modify properties such as brush direction, scaling preferences, and overlap preference, and apply the changes to the existing strokes. Clicking Edit Brush after selecting a normal brush launches the edit dialog box that brush type.

I am developing an iOS app that uses a paint brush to draw in a board. I have created a simple paint tool with which user can paint, but what I really need is a paint tool that draws with brush stroke. Is there anyway to achieve the same in native iOS app development?

I have an array of mouse points, a stroke width, and a softness. I can draw soft circles and soft lines. Which algorithm should I use for drawing my array of points? I want crossed lines to look nice as well as end points.

There's a nice overview article by Tateosian which explains the additional techniques in less detail with pretty pictures.Bezier curve drawing alone doesn't produce the effects you want (depending on how fancy you want to get). However, I'd certainly start with Paul's work and see if just using that to draw with your soft brush is good enough.

My suggestion would be the following. When you press SHIFT before you start the brush stroke, it should be as it is now - basically switching to the Line tool. But when you press SHIFT after you started the stroke (now nothing happens) it should snap to a straight line (horizontal and vertical should be enough). Not a major deal breaker, but a nice addition to the functionality of the brush tool.

The request for parallel lines reminds me of modal tools in Blender, subtools that are invoked through tool specific shortcuts, but it appears to be that line tool for the brush is already such a thing.

I have been struggling with this for last few days and decided to get expert help here. I have drawing like below (original art is more complex) which was created using brush strokes (no built-in shape objects). I am trying to paint/draw inside using brush strokes just like "draw inside" feature of Illustrator. As it works for closed shapes so I thought making sure all lines are connected will suffice, but it didn't.

As a test, when I tried using Shape builder tool to color, it works perfectly as it treats inside square as a closed shape but I don't want fill colors so this wont work, I want to color using my textured brushes.

I have also tried coloring the background in another layer and using this drawing as clipping mask by Object>Compound Path>Make but it didn't help either. I am new to clipping mask so not sure if there is another way.

Edit: Billy's answer is perfect and I was able to do this quickly as a test. I can paint in multiple shapes like face, body, hair now. Just created a duplicate layer of drawing to keep my lines still there.

Taking on a new art project is one of the best ways to relax as you express yourself creatively. When it comes to art projects, painting can be one of the most fun and rewarding mediums you can take on.

We will add these in this thirst step of our guide on how to draw a paintbrush. This part of the brush will connect to the end of the metallic part that you drew in the previous step.

As for our details, we will be adding some thin lines to the metallic part of the brush to give it a look of being made of shiny metal. Once you have drawn these lines, you have technically finished this step.

Brush drawing is a watercolor technique that is especially suited to illustrating nature objects. In Brush Drawing: A Basic Course, Richele Baburina will be your guide in these step-by-step lessons that take you from the most basic brush exercises all the way to painting from nature. This self-paced study walks you through the process that Charlotte Mason taught her students, beginning in first grade.

This silicone brush is designed to emulate painting or drawing with a flexible paintbrush head. Because of its shape, this brush can make a wide variety of marks, from wider to very fine. This brush also offers a lot of control on the plate, which allows the user to draw and paint more precise marks. It also features a comfortable design for effortless use, making it ideal for all skill levels.

I finally got an opportunity to play with the brush drawing tool. I love the marks.... it allowed for nice delicate flowing lines. It felt good in my hand to use and the tip was very flexible allowing a variation of thickness in the hot wax.

Thank you so much! I love my beautiful carving tool. It came well packaged and arrived in perfect condition.

The beautifully crafted handle is easy to hold and lovely to look at.

Wonderful attention to detail in every way. I look forward to purchasing more of your hand crafted tools and brushes

This brush is a true work horse, and delivers awesome marks. It feels good in my hands and connects me to my muse. Plus, it is a beautiful masterpiece, a work of art that really stands out in my studio. I absolutely love it and all the other brushes that I have that Elizabeth made...she is a true brush master. 2351a5e196
