As far as Rogue is concerned, her childhood isn't anything worth remembering, so she tries not to. There was nothing especially interesting about it--aside from knowing she was adopted--until she accidentally put a boy in a coma after kissing him once at the ripe age of 15. She ran away from home after that, hitchhiking and squatting, and generally just trying to keep her distance from people. 

She eventually ran into Logan, who ended up giving her a ride; it was the first real interaction she'd had with anyone in months, and she instantly became attached to him. He was gruff, sure, but he was also kind. He was the one who convinced her to stay with the X-Men instead of running away again, when no one else could have, because he understood her feelings of isolation and the fear of what she was capable of. Choosing to stay ended up being the best decision she ever made. 

After spending a few years at Xavier's school, Rogue still doesn't have control over whether or not she absorbs the lifeforce (or powers) from a powers, but she's gotten a lot better at using whatever she takes, and it's made her quite the versatile fighter. There are still plenty of days that Rogue wishes she was normal--or at the very least that she could feel someone's skin against her own without worrying she'll kill them--but she's come to embrace what she is.
