Death was never meant to create life. It defied the universe. And yet, once in a great while, it happened. They fell in love with a mortal and conceived a child; but the price for Death having a child was their lover's life. Death could not take care of the child, so they left the baby with their lover's family. What they didn't realize was how wrong a child of Death would feel to mortals. The baby was soon given up for adoption, where he would spend most of his childhood abused in foster care. 

Given what he was, no matter how severe the abuse, Morgan always healed too quickly for there to be proof. After trying to get help for years, and being called a liar, the child--named Morgan Johnson, by the state--simply gave up trying. And not long after, gave up talking altogether. He was mute for several years, only communicating via writing things down, or a fudged version of sign language he made with some of his foster siblings. Around the age 15, Morgan and the other older kids ran away, living on the streets and looking out for each other. It wasn't until they'd lived on the streets for a few years that he finally started talking again. To this day, Morgan has no idea what he is, or why he seems to heal from anything.
