Georgie had the best big brother in the whole world; he always said so. Especially after Billy saved his life. 

George doesn't remember much of what happened in Derry. Actually, he says he doesn't really remember anything before age 10. It's just huge blanks and bits of memory, like someone blacked out whole pages in the story of his life. What he knows is that, when he was 8 or so, he went missing. Everyone but his big brother thought that he was dead, and for months he was trapped underground with some kinda psycho who'd eaten taken his right arm. Billy and his friends found Georgie and brought him out of the sewer. 

For weeks after he was found, Georgie was catatonic. Eventually, though, he snapped out of it--at least enough to start reacting to the world around him. It was still a couple of months before he started talking again (first thing he said was Billy's name). In all that time, he largely just followed his big brother around. Nothing else made sense but being by his side; nothing else felt safe. He couldn't tell anyone what happened. Not because they wouldn't believe him, but because he could hardly remember it himself. But between what little he remembered, his missing arm, and the state of the other bodies that were found, police had made their own conclusions and that became the truth. 

George slowly got better, but he was never the same after being presumed dead for nearly a year, and his parents didn't exactly want to acknowledge that time he'd been gone so didn't do much to help him. Bill was the only reason he made it through; he seemed to understand what had happened to him better than even he did, though he never went into detail about it. Most of the time, George was glad for it. They only got closer as they got older, with George confiding in Bill all the things he couldn't tell their parents. 

Art became the only real way George could process what had happened to him or express how it made him feel, and he threw himself into it as hard as his brother threw himself into writing. And it turned out, he was really good at it. George went to art school and became a successful artist before he'd even graduated.
