Despite the fact that Bonnie didn't find out she was a witch until her junior year of high school, she took to it very quickly (with the help of her Grams). Bonnie went from feeling unqualified to deal with these powers she was developing, to being able to wield them with precision to protect the people she cared about. The years following her magic awakening were far from easy, though. 

Bonnie lost her magic. Found her magic again. Died twice. Briefly was the anchor to the other side. She lost so many people she loved--though she did manage to bring some of them back, it wasn't without great cost to herself. Throughout a lot of it, Bonnie was taking care of everyone else, and putting herself last.

Then she fell in love with a vampire that made her feel alive, and loved, and cherished, more than she'd ever thought possible. Enzo was the first person who ever truly put her first, above anyone else, and it was a staggering thing to be loved like that; Bonnie had never imagined she would find an epic love. When the worst of their challenges were over, Enzo took the cure and became human so that he could spend a human life with Bonnie, and all that entailed.
