Initially, I didn't write this for the class but from a fun writing prompt. However, when I went to my monthly Live Discussion Session (LDS) hosted by the adult class TA, Miss Nia, I found out that we were sharing short stories. Although I had missed that, thankfully I had this story to share. The class loved it and the people in the group were laughing really hard. I created the shortened version as part of a class exercise. I love HELA because of my fun and insightful classmates, the LDSs (one session of which I got to take over!), Morning Pages, readings, and DQs. So essentially everything. This is one of my favorite courses!
. . . . . . .
Poppy woke up one morning and, after going out, joined her humans for breakfast. However, chaos soon ensued as the family created an unnecessarily overwhelming amount of noise as they bustled about and got ready for the day, or at least that's what she guessed they were doing. Finally, everyone was gone and she got to enjoy a peaceful morning and afternoon with Mom and the baby, Ria. After a tranquil day, everyone came home and went about the rest of their day. Checking in the bedroom of the older girls, Myriah and Caroline, for the friendly, smiling face of the former, she instead met the annoyed face of the latter. Finally, she found Myriah, who was one of her favorite humans, playing with Maisy and being watched by Peter. Supervising a game of Chess, she thought for sure that she caught Maisy cheating. However, right as the game was ending, to Poppy’s endless joy, it was time for dinner. Although Mom, Dad, and Caroline were all stingy jerks who didn’t share, Myriah, Maisy, Peter, and Ria, the kindest souls in existence, provided her with bits of their scrumptious dinner in addition to a bone and her own food. After dinner, they watched a really scary movie in which one of the scenes looked like some scary dogs walking on two legs were killing people and the kind souls from dinner (except Ria) shared some movie snacks (the not-dog-poisonous ones, that is, which meant she only got to have pretzels) with her. When Poppy tried to share the benevolent gifts the family had given her with Ria since she had nothing to eat, Mom scolded Poppy and pushed the bowl of food away from the baby, much to Poppy’s annoyance and indignation. After the movie was over, everyone went to bed. Contemplating the eventfulness of her life, Poppy decided to take action to share her illustrious (was that the word?) world with everyone around her. Finding Mom’s computer unlocked, using her paws, she wrote her story, in English, for her family to read. Once she was done, she was convinced that she deserved a PhD for writing a story on her own. Now she just had to figure out how to get one. Maybe she could eavesdrop and get some information on how to pull that off.
