Pedagogical Advances in Cognitive Systems

Objectives: This workshop will be the first in a series of five annual workshops seeking to bring together educators in the field of Cognitive Systems to set and achieve goals for curricular development in the field of cognitive systems. The second year's workshop will focus on (1) designing learning objectives for Cognitive Systems course modules at the undergraduate level in both Computer Science and Psychology (2) designing mutually agreed upon metrics for evaluating such modules; (3) presenting experience reports on Cognitive Systems course modules at the graduate level.

Format: The workshop will be held in Hybrid Format (in person / zoom). Workshop attendees are expected to come with their perspectives on these topics, either informally or through a submitted proposal or experience report; the workshop will then be spent presenting and discussing disparate perspectives and compiling a set of recommendations that can be shared with the rest of the community.

How to Participate: To participate in the workshop, please visit this webpage to register and to indicate how you plan to participate in the workshop. Submission is not required to participate, but submissions (i.e., written proposals or experience reports) accepted after light peer review will be hosted on the workshop website. Submissions should be 2-4 pages in length (this is flexible), and submitted as PDFs in the same format as that used for the ACS conference (http://www.cogsys.org/format/). The lead author of the submission should upload the submission as part of their registration above.

Important Dates:

• Participants who are submitting written proposals or experience reports are requested to complete the registration form by October 14th, 2022.

• Participants who are aiming to join for discussion without a submission are requested to complete the registration form by November 4th, 2022.

• The workshop will be held on November 22nd, 2022 (Time 9am ET) at George Mason University in Arlington Virginia (Multipurpose Room 126) as part of ACS 2022. Registrants will also be contacted by Tom Williams with Zoom info.
