OVERVIEW
Pack Planner does not require an account, and we do not sell personal information. The app builds packing lists for your trips from packing kits, lets you tick items off by person and bag, reminds you about items to pack last or buy, and helps you adjust your kits after a trip. Your trips, lists, and kits are stored locally on your device. The app also uses Google services for analytics, crash reporting, remote configuration, and advertising.
NOTIFICATIONS
The app asks for notification permission when you create a trip with the "pack last" reminder or a shopping reminder turned on. Reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device (up to 60 at a time): on the departure day for items still to pack last, and a chosen number of days before departure for items still to buy. They show the trip name and the number of items left. If you decline, nothing is scheduled and the rest of the app works; you can change this in your device Settings.
INFORMATION STORED ON YOUR DEVICE
The app stores:
- up to 200 trips. Each trip contains the name you give it, departure and return dates and an optional departure time, up to 12 travelers (a name you enter and an age group: adult, child, or baby), up to 16 bags (a name, type, and optional owner), the climates and activities you chose, a laundry interval, reminder settings, and up to 2,000 list items (a built-in item or your own text of up to 60 characters, category, quantity, how many are packed, owner, bag, stage, and whether it was bought). After a trip it can also hold your review: which items were used or unused, and up to 50 items you noted as forgotten;
- up to 80 packing kits, each with up to 200 items (the item, category, quantity rule, who it applies to, stage, and bag type);
- your reminder settings (morning reminder hour and how long before departure to remind you) and which trip is selected.
The app keeps automatic copies of this data on the device: one from each of the 3 most recent days on which you made changes, and a copy made before any restore or "Replace my data" import. If saved data is found to be damaged, a copy of it is also kept on the device so it is not silently lost.
The app may also store basic operating information such as app-use count, whether the review prompt was shown, and cached advertising or More Apps configuration.
The developer does not run a server that receives your trips or lists. The app reads developer-controlled advertising settings and a More Apps list from Google Cloud Firestore, and loads the More Apps icons from their web addresses; it does not upload your trips, names, or lists.
BACKUP FILES AND SHARING
When you choose "Export backup file" in Backup & restore, the app writes a file containing all of your trips, kits, and settings to its temporary storage and opens your device's share sheet; you decide where the file goes (for example Files, a cloud drive, or e-mail). Anyone who receives that file can read its contents, including traveler names. When you choose "Open a backup file", the app reads only the file you pick (up to 5 MB), shows what it contains, and lets you add it to your data or replace your data.
When you share a list from the Pack screen, the app creates plain text (the trip name, items, quantities, and traveler or bag names) and passes it to the share sheet. The app does not send it anywhere itself.
ANALYTICS, CRASH REPORTING, AND ADS
Google Firebase Analytics may process limited app-usage and technical information, such as app launches, session counts, tab and menu interactions, your answer to the iOS tracking prompt, app version, device type, and app-instance identifiers. Some events include counts or simple choices: creating a trip records how the list was started and the number of travelers and bags; finishing packing records the number of items; applying a review records the number of changes; importing a backup records whether you added or replaced; sharing records whether you shared the whole list, one bag, or one person's items; undo records which kind of action was undone. Exporting a backup and restoring an automatic copy are also recorded. These events do not include trip names, traveler names, dates, or item text. Ad revenue events record the ad format and the reported value and currency.
Google Firebase Crashlytics may process crash reports and related technical information needed to diagnose app problems.
The app shows ads through Google AdMob. Google may process advertising identifiers and device, app, consent, network, and ad-performance information to provide and measure ads, and may use an IP address to estimate an approximate location even though the app has no location permission.
Banner ads appear only on the Trips and Kits screens, not on the Pack or After trip screens. A full-screen ad may appear after you tap "Done packing" and your list is saved, but only if you are still on the Pack screen and have done nothing else since. An app-open ad may appear when the app starts or when you return to it, but not while you are on the Pack screen or while a backup file, file picker, or share sheet is open. On Android, the exit dialog may show an ad.
PERMISSIONS AND ADVERTISING CHOICES
The only feature permission the app requests is notifications, as described above. It does not request location, camera, microphone, contacts, photos, Bluetooth, or health data. Backup files are opened through the system file picker, which gives the app access only to the file you choose.
Where required (for example in the EEA and UK), Google's consent message (UMP) is shown first, and in those regions personalized advertising stays off unless your choice allows it. On iOS, the App Tracking Transparency prompt is shown only after that step and only when personalized advertising is allowed. If tracking is not allowed, the IDFA is not available to the app or its ad partners. If the consent message cannot be loaded, the app may still show non-personalized ads and does not ask for tracking permission. The app works whatever you choose.
You can change notification and tracking permissions in your device Settings at any time. Where Google requires it, the app menu shows "Privacy choices", which reopens the consent message so you can change your advertising choice.
STORAGE AND YOUR CONTROL
You can delete a trip from its edit screen (open it from the Trips screen and tap Delete), remove items from a list on the Pack screen, and delete your own kits or kit items on the Kits screen (built-in kits can be reset to their starting contents). Deleted data can remain in the automatic copies described above: daily copies are replaced by newer ones, while copies made before a restore or replace, or of damaged data, stay on the device until you clear the app's data or delete the app (the app has no button to delete them individually). You can also clear the app's data on Android or delete the app. Backup files you exported are outside the app, so delete them where you saved them. Local data may be included in an Apple, Google, or device backup depending on your backup settings; uninstalling normally removes the active copy but may not remove an older backup.
Because we do not receive your trips or lists, we cannot delete them for you; the controls above remove them from your device. For questions about data processed by Google, or to ask us for help with a privacy request, contact us at the address below.
Data processed by Google is retained according to its service settings and policies:
- Google Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
- Firebase privacy information: https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy
- Google advertising technologies: https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads
We use these services under their applicable terms, and we ensure that third-party service providers with whom we share user data provide the same or equal protection of that data as stated in this policy.
SECURITY
Your saved data is kept in the app's private storage on your device, which the operating system protects from other apps; it is not separately encrypted by the app, so protect your device with a passcode. Exported backup files are not encrypted; keep them somewhere you trust. Apart from the limited analytics events described above and the files and text you choose to share, the app does not upload your saved data. Communication between the app and Google services uses encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we limit what the app collects to what is described in this policy.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
Suggested items and quantities come from general packing kits and your settings; they are a starting point, not a complete list for your destination. Check travel documents, medicines, and entry, customs, and airline baggage rules yourself. Reminders depend on your device's notification settings and may not appear if notifications are turned off.
CHILDREN
The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Traveler names and age groups you enter for family members stay on your device as described above.
CHANGES
We may update this policy if the app or its services change. The date above shows the latest revision.
