Packard Bell Disk Image Windows 3.11 Setup Freel

the first computer i used was an apple II. the first computer in my house was a packard bell. it ran windows 3.11 (later 95), had a 66mhz 286 processor (i think), 8mb of ram (later upgraded to 16mb), total of 1.2gb hard drive space (2 drives), and i think it had the original sound blaster :ninja: MY first computer was a toshiba notebook that ran windows 98, had a 75mhz cpu, 32mb ram, 775mb hard drive space, a video card with 1mb of ram :woot: and something like a 12 inch screen (probably like 10 inch viewable :p)

As has usually been my experience installing Windows For WorkGroups3.11, the installation was mostly without incident. After starting the install fromdiskette, selecting the Custom Installation option and confirming the setup program'schoices for hardware, the installer copied software from the first two diskettes to theC:\WINDOWS directory and then started Windows.

Back to the installation of Windows. I provided the setup program withmy selections for components and accessories I wanted installed, printers I wantedinstalled and network information. My first hurdle: no driver for the TCP/IP protocol onthe installation diskettes. That was a problem because a few years ago I removed NETBEUIfrom my network and replaced it with TCP/IP. I never installed IPX/SPX; never had a needfor it. I wondered if 50z was still on the network when I moved to TCP/IP? If it was, Iwould have at-least tried to find a TCP/IP stack and Winsock for Windows for Workgroups3.11. I looked through my box of Windows diskettes for one whose label indicated that itmight have a TCP/IP update on it.

At this point, I decided that I should become more disciplined aboutlabeling diskettes. Only half of the diskettes in my box of Windows diskettes have labelson them and none of those looked like they'd have a WFWG 3.11 TCP/IP update on them.The update may have been on one of the hundred or so unlabelled diskettes but Ididn't want to take the rest of the day to check them using DIR or File Manager.Having become resigned to my labeling disability (and, quite painfully, the limitedlifespan of diskettes) a few years ago I started keeping all downloaded files in adownload directory on my main PC so I opted to check it instead of all those unlabelleddiskettes.
