Buying a stretch wrap machine is a large investment which you can make in order to bring automation to this major shipping operation. There are a few points that you may need to consider in this regard.
If you have to wrap 10-15 pallets in a day, you may have to consider using a stretch wrap machine. The reason is that the process of stretch-wrapping becomes slower and flawed when you get tired of wrapping a number of pallets in any given day. As a result, the quality of shipment gets affected.
When you wrap a pallet by hand, the cost of material you use can be 75p. However, you can reduce this cost to 50p by switching to a core-break stretch wrap machine. And if you switch to a power pre-stretch machine, you can wrap a pallet at the cost of 20p. The cost also depends upon the type of material you are using.
The upfront cost of a machine may seem quite bigger but you can surely save huge amount of money in the long run by saving costs per pallet. And the quality of wrap will also be good, so the risks of shipment getting damaged during the transit will be fewer.
The type of machine you choose for stretch wrapping mainly depends upon the space available in your working area. If there is not much space available, you may want to go for the mobile pallet wrapper which can be taken to the pallet and deliver the wrap by motoring around it. If there is a plenty of space available, you can consider going for a turntable machine. You can add ramps to make the mobility of pallets easier.
There are a number of factors that you need to consider when you choose a machine based on the weight of pallets. Overall weight of the pallet comes in the first spot. You will not be able to manage the load correctly if the items are unstable or heavy and you are using a turntable stretch wrapper. To manage these unstable loads, you can add a top platen which is a foam plat that helps in keeping the load steady. And you will want to go for the Power pre-machine if the items you are wrapping are lightweight.
