Scouting year runs from September through August of each year with the majority of our meetings and activities taking place during the school year – September through May; however, we do have Pack activities during the summer months.
For most meetings, Scouts will meet with their Den (age level group) to work on requirements (advertures or pins) toward rank advancement. Most adventures are separated into 3 Den meetings/outings. Approximately after every 3 Den meetings, a Pack meeting is held for fun Pack activities and awarding Scouts their advancement belt loop adventures and pins earned the previous month. It is the responsibility of the parents and the Den Leader to keep track of the Scouts’ advancement progress.
Cub Scouts have the opportunity to earn both required and elective recognition devices as they work toward their ranks. Each Cub Scout rank advancement requires the completion of 7 total adventures, expect the Lion rank which requires 5 adventures. The Scout handbook outline each rank’s advancement plan and required adventures. They also can earn recognition for additional elective adventures they choose to complete beyond those required for their rank. Lion, Tiger, Wolf, and Bear Scouts earn adventure loops to be worn on their belt, and Webelos Scouts earn pins they can wear on their Webelos colors.
At minimum, each Scout will need a uniform and a handbook. Each year, he/she will need a new handbook, neckerchief, and cap (optional); but other uniform parts remain the same from Tigers through Bears (3 years). When a Scout enters a Webelos den, they will need to obtain a new khaki-and-olive uniform, which they will continue to wear into their later Scouting years. Each Scout is also expected to purchase a Pack T-Shirt (known as a Class B shirt) for activities when a Class A full uniform is not needed to be worn. The Pack sells these for $15 each.
The Pack keeps a donation closet that you can look for uniform items for your Scout(s) before purchasing a brand new uniform. We just ask that you donate back to the closet when your Scout out grows uniform items.
