Stop the Sale Call to Action (Updated 07/07/19)
PICKETING PROTEST & SIT-IN at the Closed-Session Upland City Council Meeting
WHEN: 5:30 PM to 7PM on Monday, July 8, 2019
WHERE: Upland City Hall Council Chambers, 460 N. Euclid Ave., Upland, CA
We will be having a picketing protest in front of Upland City Hall at 5:30PM, right before the Upland City Council closed-session meeting that begins at 6PM. Signs will be provided, however, you are welcome to bring your own. Please wear your green People for Upland Parks t-shirt if you have one! If you'd like to purchase a shirt, you may bring $8. Currently we only have M, L, XL, & XXL sizes.
Please also consider speaking during oral communications at the beginning of this meeting at 6PM about item 4A on the meeting agenda to protest the sale of Upland Memorial Park land. If you don't wish to speak, please sit in the audience to provide moral support.
Now that the court decision has been deemed official, we can do the following:
A) Encourage the Upland City Council to
- NOT appeal the court’s decision and
- ask San Antonio Regional Hospital (SARH) to bow out of the sale by offering the hospital their $75,000 deposit back (if the hospital accepts and cashes the check, then the sale contract is cancelled).
B) If SARH insists on moving forward with the sale, we can ask the city council to require a public notice, public hearing, and election (as required by law) before the sale can be finalized. We can also encourage the city to require SARH to fund all election costs so as not to burden taxpayers with this expense.
