Go to File Station and open the docker folder. Inside the docker folder, create one new folder and name it owncloud. Follow the instructions in the image below.

Note: Be careful to enter only lowercase, not uppercase letters.

Now create three new folders inside the owncloud folder that you created at STEP 10 and name them data, db, redis. Follow the instructions in the image below.

Note: Be careful to enter only lowercase, not uppercase letters.

Note: Before you paste the code above in the Web editor area below, change the value numbers for user with your own values. (Follow my step by step guide on how to do this.) 1026 is my personal UID value and 100 is my personal GID value. You have to type in your own values.

Note: Before you paste the code above in the Web editor area below, change the value for TZ. (Select your current Time Zone from this list.)

Note: Before you paste the code above in the Web editor area below, change the value for OWNCLOUD_TRUSTED_DOMAINS and type in your own local NAS IP and your own synology.me DDNS without https:// at the beginning that you have previously created at STEP 6. The local NAS IP and DDNS are separated by a comma.

Note: Before you paste the code above in the Web editor area below, change the value for OWNCLOUD_ADMIN_USERNAME and type in your own username. marius is an example for a username.

Note: Before you paste the code above in the Web editor area below, change the value for OWNCLOUD_ADMIN_PASSWORD and type in your own admin password. mariushosting is an example for a password.

Note: If you need more Environment variables, check the full ENV variables.

I thought that it would be interesting to run up an instance of owncloud on docker. I have several machines I could put this on - but - if I were to use it as a larger server then I want the bigger disk of the NAS.

The proxy_buffering was mentioned on the owncloud documentation on large file support and the max size is also needed in the owncloud web config - the default max body size for this image seems to be 513mb.

This means we need to make one more change - and annoyingly - it's inside the owncloud container. We need to update .htaccess and .user.ini to have the max size change too. I am not sure if it needs to be in both - but it keeps it consistent.

This last step is annoying - it will need to be done every time we pull an updated container. We can either live with that, pull out the two files as single file volume mounts - or see if it can get added as an environment setting later on. I need a little more time using owncloud before I start digging in to the repo for that :)

Note: It is possible to install Redis server and php extension php-redis to your Synology NAS, in order to support Redis caching and file locking in owncloud. Please see my other blog post for installing phpredis into Synology NAS running DSM6 without bootstrapping. Also I have posted a guide on how to configure Owncloud to use system CRON in Synology NAS (DSM 6 RC).

Hi Ian,

I haven't seen this issue before. I have updated owncloud manually to 9.0.1 lat weekend, after I couldn't install any updates from within owncloud. It was so annoying, that I decided to go the manual route this time. It seems, that there is no update to the community package of owncloud and I didn't want to wait any longer.

I used the instructions in the guide (the link you posted here) and it worked fine. There were some minor things that I did, especially copying the config files from the 8.x installation over to the 9.0.1 installation. Adjusting some of the permissions and it was ready to go.

Wow, that is quite a NAS! Excuse the question, but what exactly do you want to install on your NAS? There are 3 desktop clients: Windows, Mac and Linux. There is no official command line client to connect to an owncloud instance. So, you could either run a VM with Windows or Linux on your NAS and install the client in the VM. But it might be easier to install one of the graphical clients on your main computer and connect to your owncloud instance that way. So, for me it looks like your NAS is not really part of that solution anymore. I don't know if this is what you had envisioned.

For ownCloud 4.5.3, there is a downloadable QPKG available in QNAPForum: ownCloud QPKG For both x86 & ARM according to ownCloud QPKG 4.5.3.Q05 on QNAP Forum. A detail explain is available in From absolute scratch: Install owncloud on your NAS on QNAP Forum.

I just wanted to post a solution because I couldnt find one while doing a quick google search. The solution is pretty easy, all you have to do is include a destination in the connection link. If you do not include one, synology will get confused. I used to have the same problem with ftp connections.

Essentially yes. I'm not familiar with owncloud, you probably can, but I'm not sure the configuration for it. Did some more searching and it looks like their site does have some documentation on using a reverse proxy much like Jira would, check out _manual/configuration_server/reverse_proxy_configuration.html for more details. ff782bc1db
