Camp Needs

What to wear

GOOD tennis shoes for marching

Make sure your shoes are in good shape with appropriate support, but not new. Please plan to wear socks. Sandals, “Chacos”, combat boots are NOT appropriate footwear!

Appropriate gear for being outside

Wear loose fitting athletic clothing (shorts, t-shirts, etc.) Don’t wear jeans and a sweatshirt unless you bring something to charge into when you get hot.

Sunglasses and a hat are a MUST (i.e. required).

Be prepared for all types of weather. We DO practice in the rain!

Having a light windbreaker/waterproof jacket is a good idea for the mornings and if we get a shower in the afternoons. I am very careful when it comes to lightning and protecting the instruments/electronics, but we will often do drill in the rain.

What To Bring

A one gallon thermos

We want all students to have the one gallon thermos containers for camp and for the season. Please take care of the initial “fill up” at home (put ice in it!) during band camp. This way, you always have plenty of water with you on the field.

Suncreen

Don’t be that lobster kid after day one. Ucommon sense and put on lots of sunscreen and wear clothing that is protective while being out in the sun.

Other items:

Wind and Percussion students are required to have a 3-ring binder with a way to carry it on the field with page protectors and a strap that they can put over their shoulder (messenger style). A “Trapper Keeper” works perfectly. If you want, you can use a drawstring bag to carry your notebook/supplies in.

All marchers will be issued an All-Weather Notebook for drill. This is called a dot book. It will need a shoulder strap. Old purse straps, shoelaces, and cord make workable alternatives. Again, you are welcome to carry this in a drawstring bag on the field with you.

Your instrument along with reeds, mouthpieces, etc.

One Gallon Water Jug

Please choose a water bottle like this (One gallon)!

It can be any color, but really needs to be a gallon. Here is a link to one on Walmart.com.

Please arrive to school with it filled.

A three-ring binder

A 3-ring binder like this is the best!

We will need to be very "mobile" this year. Choose wisely. Here is a link from Walmart.com.
