We want to help you! Crime victims suffer beyond the events of the crime itself. Most victims are in a state of uncertainty and have many questions. As a crime victim, you have various rights. You have the right to be protected. You are entitled to know the status of the case as it proceeds through the court. You have a right to meet with the prosecutor handling your case. Our office will seek an order of restitution requiring the offender to pay you for the damages caused. You are entitled to make a statement to the court at sentencing as well. Alexa Reed is the victim advocate for the Adams County Prosecutor's Office. Please contact her with any questions or comments about your case. You can reach her by phone at (260) 724-5339 or by email: areed@co.adams.in.us. Feel free to schedule an appointment as well. Please do not allow your questions to go unanswered.

The Victim Assistance (VA) program of FWPD was established in 1981. The program provides comprehensive crime victim services to the City of Fort Wayne and surrounding communities. Advocates and volunteers passionately work to provide information to crime victims to reduce re-victimization as victims navigate through the criminal justice system. Primary and secondary crime victims receive direct services to help stabilize their lives and meet their immediate needs. The outreach program initiates contact to inform victims about available services and their rights as crime victims and survivors. Victim’s Assistance collaborates with a number of community and state agencies to provide training, community events and projects developed to address the emotional, physical, financial, social, spiritual, and cultural needs of crime victims.

The Victim Assistance Unit was the first 24-hour on-call crisis intervention unit within a U.S. law enforcement agency. The Indianapolis Police Department started the unit on August 4, 1975, in response to growing public concern for crime victims. The IMPD unit, with its 14 civilian employees, continues to provide a critical service. The unit strives to help any person who has suffered, directly or indirectly, a physical, emotional, or personal loss as a result of a criminal act. This includes families of victims and victims of crimes not necessarily prosecuted. The unit also supports IMPD by reducing out-of-service time for officers and detectives.
