2023 Going Back to Cali Race April 21-23
Welcome to the 2023 Going Back to Cali 1/28 scale race which will be held April 21-23. This is the first time a large event with out of state racers has been held at the LEMO Foundation by the Inside Line Racing club. It’s been an exciting year for the club as we finally have a permanent track location, and the number of local racers and the race program has grown dramatically over the past several months. Several of the original Bay Area Mini-Z racers from over a decade ago have returned to the hobby and are back into the racing scene.
Our track will be 30+ tiles long by 16+ tiles wide (final size TBD). We have some of the top 1/28th scale racers in the nation who are local, and expect other top drivers from around the nation to attend as well.
The LEMO Foundation is located in Redwood City in the San Francisco Bay Area near Silicon Valley. There are numerous hotels, restaurants, and stores within a 10 minute radius.
For those that want additional practice, the track will be open all week (layout will be smaller than the final race layout). The practice fee will be $15/day for Mon/Tue/Wed/Thur. The track layout will be changed late Thursday so those that practiced early will be on the same playing field as those that arrive Friday morning.
Friday the track will open at 8 am for practice which will last until approximately 10pm. If a line starts forming we will switch to timed practice sessions. If we get complaints about not being able to get decent laps we will switch to practice by classes that will be given a specific amount of time based on class entries.
There will be approximately 4 (or more) rounds of qualifying (final # of qualifying rounds will be dependent on the total number of entries). Round 1 will serve 2 purposes. Round 1 will be used to sort for round 2 by using the top 5 average laps, but it will also count towards your laps and times for your final EQ position. Rounds 3 and beyond sorting will only use previous rounds best laps and time. You get the best of both worlds.
Saturday the track will open at 8 am with practice lasting until 10am. We will start qualifying rounds after 10am, with a break for lunch (time allowing). The track will be open for practice during breaks. After qualifying is complete the track will be open for practice until 10 pm and possibly later. Detailed schedule will be posted after the final number of entries is tallied.
Sunday the track will open at 8 am with practice lasting until 10am, after which Mains will start.
A mains will run triples and and lower mains will run doubles.
PLEASE NOTE - we will be using an I-lap timing system for the race, NOT Easy Lap. You will need an I-lap transponder to compete. Only genuine I-lap transponders are recommended (www.rclapcounter.com), as clones/generic transponders have been unreliable. There will be a very limited amount of transponders available for purchase if you forget, but please plan on procuring transponders before attending.
