I'm getting an event ID 9337 in my application log OALGen did not find any recipients in address list \Global Address List. This offline address list will not be generated. -\NAMEOFMYOAB --------- on my Exchange 2010 box, which pretty much to me seems to confirm my suspicion that the empty GAL/OAB is what's causing the Outlook client 0x8004010F error.

Outlook error 0x8004010F appears in various situations. Some particular cases include when users are trying to send emails, synchronize their folders, or update the offline address book. This error is likely to occur due to issues with the Outlook data file or the configuration settings.

Interestingly, one of my user was getting this message when he was trying to send a message to a distribution list that he had created in his local address book. He started getting this error when he was sending message to this distribution list after he was migrated from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010. So, i just updated the distribution list by double updating the email addressess on the contacts that i could not open. Even selecting the option no worked once i clicked no the address would open fine next time.

3) Close Outlook and open Outlook and check the offline address book downloads. If not, click on send/receive, Send/Receive Groups and download the address book. Once downloaded you should see an improvement in email speed.

If your work is interrupted due to the error "Outlook contacts not available in address book," there is no need to worry, as you are in the right place. In this article, we will discuss some fruitful solutions to get out of this problem.

I ran into an issue where when trying to download offline address book gives an error code (0x80004005). This issue occurred only on our VDI environment, where normal fat desktops are not having this issue.

Where does the offline address book download too? Is it an option to exclude that from persona? It is a situation where Microsoft doesn't support offline address books being downloaded to a cifs or remote share?

Offline Address Book also looks like it is having problems. Did you remove an Exchange Server? Dan

Microsoft Exchange Support @ Microsoft RE: global address list not updating Guest (visitor)5 Aug 02 04:10This is happening to me, too. I DID remove an original Exchange server without replicating the Public Folders. Real bad! That server is long gone. I've combed through the web for some sort of fix outside of rebuilding the Exchange server from scratch, but I did not find any answers. Is rebuilding the Exch server from scratch the last resort?

Thanks in advance!

Joel RE: global address list not updating Xybertron (MIS)5 Aug 02 21:40No basically you need to point both the RUS and Offline Address Book to the new server. Then GUIDGEN if the server removed was the first Exchange server. Dan

Microsoft Exchange Support @ Microsoft RE: global address list not updating Guest (visitor)7 Aug 02 16:11Thanks, Dan. I think that the OAB is already pointed to the new server. RUS? In the course of cleaning this up, I've also used GUIDGEN, but maybe I have to it again and also look up my past notes on it. If you happen to know of a link detailing your suggestion, I'd very much appreciate it. Thanks!

Joel RE: global address list not updating Xybertron (MIS)8 Aug 02 00:58RUS = Recipient Update Service. Very close in ESM to the Offline Address List. Dan

Microsoft Exchange Support @ Microsoft RE: global address list not updating Guest (visitor)10 Aug 02 19:07Duh! (RUS).

Anyway, recreated the RUS and Offline Address List, then Guidgened the System Folders. Problem still present. Should I have first Deleted the Offline Address Book in the Public Folders before the Guidgen?

Thanks in advance, Dan. I feel so close at resolving this.

-Joel RE: global address list not updating Xybertron (MIS)12 Aug 02 23:55Do new user get e-mail addresses? Or do you add them?

What is the exact problem your having now? Dan

Microsoft Exchange Support @ Microsoft RE: global address list not updating Guest (visitor)19 Aug 02 14:38Hi Dan,

Just OAB. The clients get the following error when synch'ing Outlook: 'Microsoft Exchange Server' reported error (0x80004005):'The operation failed'". No Global Address Book is then available when Offline.

I've tripled-checked ADSI settings. Everything points to the right server.

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer this.

Regards,

Joel RE: global address list not updating ianbla (IS/IT--Management)10 Sep 02 04:02Did you find a resolution for this problem? I am getting the same. RE: global address list not updating Guest (visitor)12 Sep 02 04:22No I have not. I may have to completely rebuild the Exchange server from scratch. I'm hoping to avoid that, since my Exchange server is running pretty smooth except for this problem.

I've recently run into the issue of somebody opening outlook without a network connection (network offline, unplugged, or it's mobile like a laptop and happens to not have connectivity at the moment). It seems to be in getting a list of the recipients.

It turns out that Outlook has an old version of the offline address book cached. While these steps may vary a bit depending on your version of Outlook, I believe the steps should be fairly similar for Outlook 2013, Outlook 2010, and Outlook 2007.

This can also be caused by cached email addresses which are not correct, or have been used on a previous exchange server.

For example; on-prem exchange server upgraded to Office 365 and they have kept their address cache in outlook 2010/2013, some addresses, not all will get this bounce back error message.

Hi All, i scratched a hole in my head on this one! we have exchange 2013 and a mixture of outlook 2007, 2010 and 2013. I had one particular user who couldnt forward messages out of a shared mailbox. i tried a plethora of things, including recreating mail profile, recreating local profile / roaming profile. re-downloading the OAB (which seemed futile as it was a new mail profile). it turns out it was that the type ahead (stored in the .nk2 file for outlook 2007) was created using a previous version of exchange and that was causing the issue. as soon as i deleted the records from the cached address book things started to work.

The error code 0x80072f06 offline address book exchange 2016 is a frequent error in the OST file. It arises when Outlook is not in synchronization with the Exchange Server. Every email client consists of a contact list i.e. Offline address book (OAB). OAB is somewhat similar to GAL i.e. global address list present in the mailbox of the Exchange Server. The Exchange Server stores all the information such as the name, email address of the user in Outlook. In the presence of OAB, Outlook need not connect to Exchange Server every time the mail is sent.

When all issues have been resolved (so Update-GlobalAddressList can be run without generating any warnings or errors) try kicking off a rebuild of the offline address book. (Exchange Management Console > Organization Configuration > Mailbox > Offline Address Book > Right click on the "Default Offline Address List" and select "Update."

Exchange Management Console > Organization Configuration > Mailbox > Database Management > Right click the Mailbox Database and open its Properties > Client Settings tab > Default public folder database click [Browse ...] and select the new offline address list that you just created. [OK] to close. e24fc04721
