Barnet Council is committed to improving its residents’ lives and making our town centres great places to live, work, learn, shop, relax, invest, socialise and visit for all.
As part of this prioritisation, in July 2017 Barnet Council appointed Fluid (an urban design, architecture and participation specialist) to develop a Town Centre Strategy for Golders Green. The purpose of the strategy is to provide a practical handbook for the council, community and our partners to develop a strategic and comprehensive plan to guide improvements for Golders Green Town Centre.
In developing the strategy, Fluid has undertaken a range of consultation and engagement activities with the local community. These events have been used to better understand the area and collate the opinions, thoughts and ideas of the community and other key stakeholders. The findings of this process have informed the current version of the Golders Green Town Centre Strategy.
Building on this engagement, we now wish to give the local community an opportunity to review the Golders Green Strategy and identify their priorities from the list of ‘proposed improvements’ across the town centre. Your feedback will be collated to produce a ‘Community Project Priorities List’, which will be integrated into the final strategy document.
Following this, we aim to take the Final Strategy to be adopted by the council at the Assets, Regeneration and Growth Committee in November. Once adopted, the council will use the Golders Green Town Centre Strategy as an evidence case to unlock internal and external investment in the Town Centre and share the communities needs and priorities when talking with external stakeholders looking to bring forward development within Golders Green Town Centre.
Messages from local organisations in and around Golders Green on the process
"Local residents and businesses, and everyone who uses Golders Green, should take part in the survey so as to help ensure that the future development of the town centre really meets people's wishes. Better to get things right at the start of the process than have to seek significant changes later. Make your voice heard!" - Jeremy Charles, Chairman of the Golders Green Station Action Group (GGSAG)
