Ultrafast Terahertz Optoelectronic Laboratory (UTOL)

The modern world uses electromagnetic (EM) waves for countless purposes including communication, imaging, biological and chemical sensing, and computing. UTOL research focuses on a particular, underdeveloped spectral band of EM waves called terahertz. These waves have frequencies ranging from about 100 billion to 10 trillion cycles/second! Terahertz is mostly used in science today, but is growing extremely important for practical technologies of the future, including: wireless communications (6G), safety (automotive radar), and security (non-invasive imaging).
