Vortexfang: Willowstar, what was Whistlesong doing on the day of the murder?
Willowstar shrugged. "I don't normally keep track of what Whistlesong does. I think he went on the dawn patrol, ate some food, then when he learnt about Fishtwirl's death and visited Coldstep for help. I'll need to ask Fishtwirl what he did that day." The leader paused. "Whoops, I forgot about that."
Skypaw: Willowstar, what did you think of Fishtwirl?
Willowstar smiled. "She was easily the best sister I could have asked for. We were always close, and she always made me laugh, even on a bad day. I'm still not used to how she's gone..." Willowstar shook her head. "It's no use meandering in the past. I need to stay in the present for the good of my Clan." Sadness tinged her voice
Amberkit: Willowstar, did any specific thing happen when you chose Fishtwirl as deputy?
"Not that I can recall. Some cats were rubbed the wrong way because she's my sister, but most appreciated a level-headed deputy," the leader recounted.
Sorrelpaw: Willowstar, who was Fishtwirl's family?
Willowstar smiled. "Well, Heronstrike, Fishtwirl and I are sisters, and Silverfoot and Reedwhistle are our parents. I love my family, they are the best!
Vortexfang: Whistlesong, what did you day on the day of Fishtwirl's death?
"It-it's hard to remember." Whistleong seemed shaken. "I went on dawn patrol, and then..." he breathed. "I heard... Quailspots run into camp, and, she was screaming so loud... She said, she found a dead cat, and it was...it was Fishtwirl."
Skypaw: Whistlesong, how was your relationship with Fishtwirl?
Whistlesong looked at the ground sadly. "She... was my mate. She was the sweetest cat there ever could have been, and never a bad word was exchanged between us. Ever since I knew her... she was nothing but the best cat, and we fell in love. I still love her, of course. I'll never stop loving her."
Amberpaw: Whistlesong, did you want to be the deputy?
"Well, when I was younger, I wanted to be leader...but so did almost every single other kit," Whistlesong stated. "It feels a bit odd replacing a job that Fishtwirl was made to do. She and her sister worked perfectly together and... I'm not sure if I can replicate that."
Castillopaw: Whistlesong, where was the body found?
Whistlesong shook his head. "I... I forgot. Everyone was talking about it... they told me.... but I forgot exactly."
Shadeleap: Rainfoot, what colour fur was found in between Fishtwirl's claws?
Rainfoot shrugged. "No fur was found in between her claws. It seems the murderer did either a pretty good job at removing all evidence or Fishtwirl wasn't able to get a hit in."
Vortexfang: Rainfoot, what were Fishtwirl's injuries?
Rainfoot thought briefly. "It was a bite on the throat, and some small scratches down her side. I'm not sure if the side was specifically from the fight though, or because she walked into a bramble bush. Nothing else as far as I can recall."
Skypaw: Rainfoot, what happened last time you saw Fishtwirl?
"Much to your inconvenience, I can't remember every single interaction with my patients," Rainfoot mewed monotonously. "I see her around camp or on patrol when I'm collecting herbs, and about a moon or two ago, she came to ask me whether any of the apprentices would make good medicine cats." Rainfoot paused. "The answer to that was no, in case you were wondering. They are all idiotic."
Agatepaw: Rainfoot, could Fishtwirl have been poisoned?
The medicine cat shook his head. "There was no poison in her system when I checked her over. No chance of any poisoning."
Amberpaw: Rainfoot, did Fishtwirl ever have any kits, and if so, who with?
"She had no kits. She would never have kits," Rainfoot noted.
Amberkit: Rainfoot, how do you think the murderer killed Fishtwirl?
"Bite to the throat. It was the only fatal injury on her," the medicine cat answered confidently.
Peanutpaw: Rainfoot, where was the body found?
"No clue. Ask Pigeoncall, they would know where it is."
Sorrelpaw: Rainfoot, who is Whistlesong's family?
"Why are you asking me?" the medicine cat seemed to be getting annoyed from all the questions. "Froghop's his sister."
Shadeleap: Coldstep, who were the cats that argued with Fishtwirl the most?
"Harepace. Certainly Harepace." Coldstep seemed certain. "They argued about who the deputy was the other day, even though I'm pretty sure it was Harepace having a joke around. I'm pretty sure only Fishtwirl was the only cat who wasn't fed up with her joking and arguing: it wasn't like she didn't fight back." They laughed.
Shadeleap: Coldstep, did you do anything to calm conflict that involved Fishtwirl?
Coldstep nodded. "I always tried to, especially the deputy situation which a lot of cats seemed annoyed about, but as soon as I came along, Harepace stopped joking around. She seems scared of me," the mediator added with a chuckle. "I'm not scary am I?"
Agatepaw/Amberkit: Coldstep, did anyone recently have a fight with Fishtwirl or a cat that was close to her?
"Not that I'm aware of, apart from all the Harepace incidences," Coldstep noted. "The family is very good at keeping out of arguments, and they are her greatest friends."
Amberpaw: Coldstep, did you ever settle any arguments involving Fishtwirl?
"Not many in the recent past," Coldstep noted. "But there were always..." Coldstep's voice caught in their throat. "Nevermind. It'd insult some cats if I told you." They seemed unsure of what to say.
Peanutpaw: Coldstep, who were Fishtwirl's enemies?
Coldstep thought briefly. "Not that many hated her, or not those who are still alive anyways. Harepace she always had a friendly rivalry with, and at one point, Tabbytail despised her, but he's gotten over that now."
Peanutpaw: Coldstep, what was Fishtwirl's relationship with Whistlesong?
"Mates. Absolute lovebirds. They were so cute together!" Coldstep let out a little squeal, like a gossiping apprentice.
Sorrelpaw: Coldstep, who had any reason to be angry at Fishtwirl?
"No one I believe," Coldstep said confidently. "If I had to choose one cat, though, it would be Tabbytail."
Castillopaw: Hersontrike, what was Whistlesong's relationship with Fishtwirl?
Heronstrike sighed. "They were mates, and Whistlesong made sure everyone knew it. He's a romantic, StarClan bless him."
Castillopaw: Leopardpaw, who found the body?
Leopardpaw rolled his eyes. "Either Quailspots or Pigeoncall. Quailspots ran into camp screaming, like the loser she is. If I found the body, I would've reported it calmly, I wouldn't have made a racket."
Agatepaw: Silverfoot, did Fishtwirl have any family?
Silverfoot nodded his head slowly. "I am her father, and Reedwhistle is her mother. Her sisters are Willowstar and Heronstrike. It makes me sad to see my little girl gone so soon," he added.
No one was convicted
Amberpaw: Willowstar, who did Fishtwirl last go on patrol with?
Willowstar thought hard. "Um.. well.. sorry, it's all still very surreal." The leader laughed glumly. "Dawn patrol? I think Shadowheart was leading... that's right! She was leading her first patrol."
Moonshade: Whistlesong, what was your favourite thing about Fishtwirl?
"Well... she was so kind to me." Whistlesong still seemed shaken up. "She had the most beautiful smile and she always made me feel happy, and when..." he paused, "she comforted me. It all seems cliché but she was really everything and more."
Peanutpaw: Whistlesong, what was your reaction when Fishtwirl died?
Whistlesong didn't answer, instead, just breaking down and sobbing, like he was reliving the experience of being told.
Mosspaw: Whistlesong, was Fishtwirl acting normally before her death?
"Yeah." It's all the tortoiseshell tom managed to say.
Frostwillow: Rainfoot, how old did the body look?
Rainfoot seemed confident in his answer once more. "It seemed recent. When I went to check it, the blood had only just dried."
Moonshade: Coldstep, what was your relationship with Fishtwirl?
Coldstep smiled. "I'd like to think we were friends of course, but we were more friends through Willowstar more than anything, or colleagues. But we have shared prey a few times and she tried to teach me a basic fighting move, which didn't end well."
Frostwillow: Tabbytail, who do you think murdered Fishtwirl?
Tabbytail seemed taken aback. "I'm still stunned that it was a cat inside my Clan. I know I had a, um, rivalry with Fishtwirl, but to think someone would murder such a kind cat? Who would do that?"
Peanutpaw: Tabbytail, where were you when Fishtwirl died?
"Talking to the elders. I'm getting on in years, and I'm thinking that when Lionpaw becomes a warrior, I should go there, and I just wanted to see what it was like being an elder. This is assuming Fishtwirl died not soon before Quailspots found the body, because I don't know when she died."
Skypaw: Tabbytail, did you like Fishtwirl overall?
"When I was a young and foolish warrior, as I suspect you've heard already, no. I won't go into any more detail." Tabbytail coughed sharply. "But I realised I was wrong, and that she was a fantastic deputy, organised well, and very clearly loved Whistlesong."
Frostwillow, Shadeleap and Peanutpaw: Pigeoncall, where was the body found, and how did you know to look there?
"In the stream bordering our territory." Pigeoncall's voice was shaky. "Near where the frogs are... but don't tell Bluepelt that we were frog hunting. And... what did you mean how did I know to look there? Fishtwirl wasn't gone for long, everyone thought she was hunting and then, Quailspots and I, found.. found the body..."
Shadeleap: Harepace, have you ever had an apprentice or wanted one so you could have the deputy position?
"I sure would like an apprentice," Harepace noted, "but only because it's high time I got one now, and maybe so I was qualified to be deputy. But before you go and frame me as a cold-blooded murderer, which I'm not, I would rather die than kill Fishtwirl for the deputy position, I'll have you know. I was trying to coerce Fishtwirl into giving me one of the current apprentices, but it didn't work as you can see." The she-cat laughed sadly.
Mosspaw: Harepace, what do you think happened?
"Well, no one knows for sure, that's the thing!" Harepace took a breath in. "I gotta think like Fishtwirl for this one, she has more logic than I do. Ok, so, she went out hunting or something for a bit (no, I can't assume that). She left the camp, let me put it like that. As for what other cats were gone at the same time as her, I remember that Bluepelt, Windfur and Yarrowswipe were out as well hunting or something, but they weren't on the same patrol. There might've been some other cats out hunting at the time, who knows." She breathed in. "As for my theory, all I know is that it's a cat who probably either wanted the deputy position or hates kittypets, no cat in the Clan had anything personal against her. But since Tabbytail is the only living cat who had something against kittypets, but I assume he's done with that since he's friends with Silverfoot and Reedwhistle and stopped Leopardpaw from attacking a kittypet on patrol when I was with him, it means the most likely motive was a cat wanting the deputy position." Harepace smiled. "Fishtwirl would be proud of me for spitting all those facts and thoughts."
Skypaw: Harepace, what happened when you last saw Fishtwirl?
"I believe I was sharing a rabbit she caught that dawn patrol with her. Then I tried to convince her not to join Yarrowswipe, Bluepelt and Windfur's patrol because I was tired. If I went on it, maybe I'd know more, sorry."
Skypaw: Whoever found the body (Quailspots), did anyone go to the place where you found the body just before the murder?
"I DON'T KNOW! HOW AM I MEANT TO KNOW?" Quailspots's eyes widened. "I mean, I saw no one go there."
Amberpaw: Windfur, what was Fishtwirl like as deputy?
The small tom seemed lost in his thoughts. "Yeah, she... she was good."
Shadeleap: Lionpaw, has your mentor ever shown hostility to Fishtwirl or jealousy at her position as deputy?
Lionpaw shook her head. "The older warriors told me that when Fishtwirl first joined the Clan, Tabbytail objected, saying that no kittypet could ever be a warrior." She breathed in. "But now, he's told me privately he really admires the amount of work Fishtwirl put into her job as deputy and that he could never do the same, and the two have cooperated on tactics for major confrontations. He never wanted to be deputy, nor did he ever expect to become one when Fishtwirl died. I think," she added at the end.
Moonshade: Lionpaw, how does your mentor treat you?
Lionpaw's eyes glowed. "He always makes sure I understand everything, and always answer my questions. He also taught me some important tactical things for organising battles, and how to lead patrols, even though he was never told to, he just taught me anyway. He is so kind and I can never wish for a better mentor."
Amberpaw: Silverfoot, what was Fishtwirl like as a kit?
Silverfoot smiled. "We were all kittypets when the kits were first born and we all lived together. Fish was always the more bossy and adventurous out of the three, she always made me smile." The elder smiled sadly.
Mosspaw: Reedwhistle, did Fishtwirl have any friends?
"Fish's best friend was young Harepace, who I had the pleasure of mentoring myself." The brown tom snorted. "Handful she was, though. It was after her old mentor died. She was also close with Bluepelt, and StarClan bless any cat who can befriend Bluepelt."
