Biden swears as president of the inauguration with a ceremony in a surreal scenario in an armored Washington and with more soldiers than invited. But with Lady Gaga, Jlo and former presidents.
Joe Biden swore in as 46th President of the United States , on an old family bible (127 years) held by his wife Jill. "I solemnly swear to faithfully fulfill the office of President of the United States and to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution to the best of my ability".
"This is the day of America, of history, of hope, democracy has prevailed", the words of Biden. "I ask all Americans to help me in uniting the country. I will put all my soul to reunite the nation"
But the inauguration took place with a very different ceremony than usual.In the surreal scenario of the capital emptied of the pandemic and the fears of other riots and therefore with more military than invited, the city is armored: the National Mall, iconic place of every presidential celebration, is closed for days. Almost 10,000 soldiers of the National Guard have arrived from other states, but the total number of soldiers engaged in the security of the area will reach 25,000.
The fear is that even before the settlement groups of Trump supporters can arrive in the city ready to demonstrate. All public monuments in the city will be closed until January 24.
