ORGANIC FARMING

Organic farming also known as ecological farming or biological farming, is an agricultural system that uses fertilizers of organic origin such as compost manure, green manure, and bone meal and places emphasis on techniques such as crop rotation and companion planting. It originated early in the 20th century in reaction to rapidly changing farming practices.

Organic agriculture is a system that aims to primarily use ecologic processes rather than external inputs to manage crops and livestock. Diversity is a key component of natural ecosystems and organic agriculture often includes the use of diversity as a management paradigm, as well as the stated goal.

Organically grown products are frequently advertised as such, and at a price higher than nonorganic produce. To the consumer, there is no way to visually determine whether or not the product was organically grown and to what organic standards.

Some organic farmers are very strict with regards to seeds, soil, water and pesticide testing, and other controls commonly imposed for organic farming. Organic farming and the use of “organically grown” terminology unfortunately opens the door to all types of fraudulent practices.
