Hmmm...I was told the same thing and realized whoever came up with that idea has no concept of what the tools do. I've been on Allegro since the early 90's and see no useful purpose for system capture.

Can I ask what was the reason you were told this? Were you having issues with capture that that was their reply? To me, V17.4 Capture is a complete disaster...Sure there a re a few features I like but overall it's almost unusable.

Have you been using system capture to interface on a daily basis with customers that use OrCAD capture? You send them OrCAD capture format files that they can read / edit and import their OrCAD capture files? Have you been exporting PADS netlists from system capture to interface with customer that use PADS PCB? Have you been able to import your OrCAD cis database that has thousands of parts into it? OrCAD capture was created for a reason. At one time it was the most powerful schematic capture program out there due to its easy user interface and compatibility with PADS (which had a much larger footprint at the time). System capture isn't going to happen. Maybe all this can be done easily with system capture and I just don't know but it sure doesn't look like it to me so far. It might someday if Cadence makes it work and feel more like OrCAD capture but for now it is not an option for us using the tools. What I'd really like is for Cadence to put some real effort into V17.4...which is without a doubt the most bug riddled version I've ever seen. And I was one of the very first OrCAD Capture customers.

Jerry, I too have been on the tools that long and system capture makes no sense. It feels like a poorly rebundled attempt at Concept schematic. Concept was a good idea and it had some cool features such as ASCII definition files which could easily be scripted. But drawing was more complex than OrCAD at the time. Across multiple companies, engineers always migrated towards OrCAD and eventually Cadence bought OrCAD. Why? It's a better tool and easier to use.

From a blank slate, I can be up and running on OrCAD in little time whereas with Concept (system capture) it takes days....why would I do this when my company operates on effective results? OrCAD is still the easiest tool out there even though it got gutted back at 17.2.50 ish....for no reason whatsoever other than the team dorking with it had no clue what its power was. Cadence needs to tune in to its user base and figure what works and what doesn't

Founded in 1985 by John Durbetaki, Ken, and Keith Seymour as "OrCAD Systems Corporation" in Hillsboro, Oregon, the company became a supplier of desktop electronic design automation (EDA) software. The name OrCAD is a portmanteau, reflecting the company and its software's origins: Oregon + CAD. In 1984 Durbetaki began designing an expansion chassis for the IBM PC. Durbetaki, who had left Intel Corp. after five years as an engineer and project manager, decided, along with brothers Keith and Ken Seymour, to start his own company to develop add-on instrumentation for the PC.[2] Durbetaki began creating his schematic capture tool for his use in the PC expansion chassis project; but essentially shelved the hardware project entirely in favor of developing low-cost, PC-based CAD software. The company's first product was SDT (Schematic Design Tools) for DOS, which shipped first in late 1985.

OrCAD Layout has been replaced by PCB Designer, sometimes called Allegro PCB Designer. The latest iteration of OrCAD CIS schematic capture software has the ability to maintain a database of available integrated circuits. This database may be updated by the user by downloading packages from component manufacturers, such as Analog Devices[14] and others. Another announcement was that ST Microelectronics will offer OrCAD PSpice models for all the power and logic semiconductors.[15] Intel offers reference PCBs designed with Cadence PCB Tools in the OrCAD Capture format for embedded and personal computers.

I'm doing a schematic for this in OrCAD capture CIS. In laying out my schematic I need to draw one wire going through another wire, but not necessarily intersecting with it via a node. When I drag a wire through it it automatically creates a node there at the intersection. Is there a way to draw these two wires overlapping but without a node?

I use orcad 16 and if you drag a wire that crosses another wire where that wire connects to a component it will justifiably make a connection. Just ensure that dragged wires don't intersect at component terminations.

OrCAD Capture schematic entry tool for circuit diagrams is one of the world's most widely used software for entering and documenting electrical circuits. It is outstanding how simple and intuitive the design intentions are captured. OrCAD Capture uses flat or hierarchical circuit diagrams. Via the navigation window the different pages of the circuit diagram can be selected and thematically managed.

I design my schematic and PCB with orcad 10.3 but I have a problem . I updated Windows from Windows 7 to Windows 10. When I try open cadence it takes a lot of time. I mean it opens too late. Also when I open cadence, CPU is overloaded at %90-95. 17dc91bb1f
