Our team of O&P clinicians and educators is developing a handbook to improve the quality of care for people with darker skin. It will include photos of various skin issues associated with orthotics and prosthetics on black and brown skin to better educate students and clinicians. Scroll down to see slideshow for more information.
We are currently seeking images of skin issues such as Callusing, Dermatitis, Epidermoid cyst, Hematoma (bruising), Keloid, Skin breakdown, Skin infection, Ulcer, Verrucous hyperplasia, Excessive pressure from a device, Hyperpigmentation from a device and Other skin issues.
If your image is used in the handbook, we will compensate you $75. Not all images will be used.
Here is what we need from you:
Take a photo of the skin issue next to the color swatch on the postcard. This is to ensure color accuracy. Refer to the tips below on taking photos of skin.

Tips for Taking Photos of Skin
Minimize patient identifiable characteristics
Do not use flash setting
Use a neutral backdrop such as a pillowcase or sheet under or behind the body part
Minimize other objects (e.g. pens, doors, clocks, etc.)
Use the color swatch postcard, if you need one please contact us at the email below
Avoid your own hands in the photo, capture only the body part with the skin condition
Use zoom to fill the frame with the body part
Tap the image on the screen to adjust the camera focus on the body part
