Kuzao
Kuzao
Opia's first project, titled Kuzao, is a short thriller film about monotony and the danger of becoming apathetic. It tells the story of one man's daily life, and the loop he falls into with no excitement in his routine. However, when this cycle of boredom is finally disrupted, to what lengths will he go in holding on to this new found pleasure?
Production for Kuzao started early 2024 with filming wrapping in May. The process was extremely small scale, with Opia founders Abi and Spike being the only people involved in the creation of the film, working with no budget and limited resources. Despite these obstacles, Kuzao has been warmly received by festivals including gaining finalist status for Big Fridge International Film Festival, and a special mention from the United Kingdom Student Film Festival.

Support
Opia were given the valuable opportunity to apply for The Obie Bursary, a scheme which allows students from The BRIT School to apply for funding to support their journey into a career in the arts. Founders Abi and Spike spoke of their intention of submitting Kuzao to various film festivals but, with the challenge of each individual submission, it became unaffordable. After agreeing to support Opia, The BRIT Trust were able to supply the team with enough to submit to every festival that they had hoped for. This has resulted in Kuzao having the chance to be seen by a far larger audience and to receive fantastic feedback, none of which would otherwise have been possible. We are therefore extremely thankful to The BRIT Trust for their generosity and for giving Opia the chance to showcase the hard work gone in to producing this debut short film.
