If you have an OpenVPN Access Server, it is recommended to download the OpenVPN Connect client software directly from your own Access Server, as it will then come preconfigured for use. The version available here does not come preconfigured, but you can import a connection configuration into it. It can also be used to update an existing installation and retain settings.

No, the client cannot connect to multiple servers at once. It does support multiple connection profiles, giving you the option to switch easily from one server to the next, but you can only be connected to one at a time. This is by design, to prevent unexpected traffic paths when connecting to multiple VPN servers at the same time. If you are a system administrator and you require a complex setup where multiple connections are active at the same time, there is the option to use the open source community OpenVPN client software available from our website.

This is the official OpenVPN Connect software for Windows workstation platforms developed and maintained by OpenVPN Inc. This is the recommended client program for the OpenVPN Access Server. The latest versions are available on our website. If you have an OpenVPN Access Server, you can download the OpenVPN Connect client software directly from your own Access Server, and it will then come pre-configured for use. The version available here contains no configuration to make a connection, although it can be used to update an existing installation and retain settings.

Choosing this option allows you to import an autologin profile with the address and credentials for your Access Server, then simply start the connection with the tap of a button. You would not need to re-enter credentials each time you connect. The autoprofile itself contains an embedded secure certificate that identifies and authorizes your connection automatically. It is an optional setting on the OpenVPN Access Server that the administrator of the server can choose to make available to you. If you find you cannot import the autologin profile, your administrator may not have allowed autologin through user permissions.

During investigation of a vulnerability called VORACLE, it was found that using compression to make the data that goes through the VPN tunnel smaller, and thus faster, has an adverse effect on security. To learn more about this see our security notification on our website regarding the VORACLE attack vulnerability. In order to protect our customers, we are disabling compression by default. Some servers of the open source variety can be configured in such a way that the client must do compression, or else the client may not connect successfully. In such a case, you should get the server updated to disable compression. But we understand that this is not always possible, and you may need to be able to connect to such a server. In that event you can go into the settings and re-enable compression.

In order to connect to the VPN server or service, you need to obtain a file that contains the specifics needed for the connection. Such a configuration file is called a profile and has an .ovpn file extension.

Currently I'm in the process of migrating from PFSense to Sophos XG and presently my devices use OpenVPN or the Viscosity VPN client (for Mac) to connect to the PFSense box which is running OpenVPN server.

Does Sophos XG support OpenVPN clients? I read that the UTM9 version apparently does not use the standard OpenVPN configurations and standard OpenVPN clients can't connect to it....is that the same for XG?

make sure to set the proper settings and permissions to users in order to get the SSL VPN section. On the SSL VPN profile created inside the VPN area, you add "allowed networks" and users that are allowed to connect to vpn.

The important part (to me) is that they are different. If an OpenVPN Client connection designed for tap tries to connect to an OpenVPN host designed for tun, it will fail. (And the reverse.)

Can you be a bit more specific about this? My 'sense' is that the laptop was taken to another place where it could connect to a different network. Is this correct? (My own test practice is to disconnect my smartphone from the Orbi WiFi, which causes it to revert to LTE data. Then open a "Hot Spot" and connect the laptop to that. My point is that this test has the laptop in no way connected to the Orbi network.

As I undertsand it, OpenVPN client versions prior to 3.x support both TUN and TAP connections. Starting with version 3.0, the client only supports TUN. If you want your device to be able to communicate with other devices on your network when connecting, it must use TAP. TUN is just for access to the Internet it seems, for example if you're traveling in another country and you're tryign to watch Netflix in your own country.

When my Android phone opens a VPN connection to the Orbi, it gets an IP address of 192.168.2.2. The gateway is 192.168.2.1 (the Orbi). However, if I ping 192.168.1.4 (my printer), the printer responds. The Orbi routes between subnets 2.x and 1.x automatically.

For me, this has never been an issue because I typically connect to a Hot Spot on my phone, which hands out 192.168.43.x IP addresses. All subnets from 0 through 254 are valid private IP addresses. Maybe some engineer was thining ahead, "what if someone attempts to open a VPN on this phone's Hot Spot?" Or, maybe just dumb luck.

I tried to reach out for the support, but you get the classic "not our product, not our problem" answer. Maybe someone can it explain it me, but is this a bug from openvpn or does sophos not support the new configuration rules for newer version?

Latest answer from Support: "Thank you for sharing the details. We have investigated the case internally and we were able to connect to the VPN using Sophos Connect Client. As far as OpenVPN connect client is concerned, unfortunately, we won't be able to provide a fix on this as this is a 3rd party software. Here the request is not even reaching the firewall while we are trying to connect the VPN as we were not able to see any logs while reproducing the error."

I am having trouble connecting to my VPN and I think I may have located the issue but I am unsure how to solve it. I can connect fine through my mobile device but when I try to connect through my MacBook it just immediately fails and says Cannot connect to VPN Server I ran the command sudo tcpdump -i en1 port 1194 while attempting to connect and noticed something odd. Below is the results when I try to connect, there are only two packets:

I am guessing this is the issue because if you try and us curl to browse to that it fails but removing the .openvpn it successfully resolves. I am wondering if anyone knows how I can get rid of the .openvpn at the end? I get my configuration file by browsing to :943 and downloading the script that is automatically configured. It has always worked in the past but for some reason it is not working anymore. If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks ff782bc1db
