"Family Shield" (Opekun) is a family safety tool that helps protect a loved one from phone scammers. This policy explains what data the app uses, how it is processed, and who it is shared with.
MAIN PRINCIPLE: EVERYTHING IS ANALYZED LOCALLY, ON THE DEVICE
The app has no server of its own and does not send user data to the internet for analysis. All checks (phone number, recently used apps) are performed directly on the phone where the app is installed. The only data that ever leaves the device is an SMS message to the trusted person (guardian), sent through the regular mobile carrier the same way any other manually sent SMS would be.
WHAT DATA THE APP USES AND WHY
Call screening service role - to determine the incoming call's number. Checks whether the number is in the phone's contacts. Call content is never read or recorded.
Call state - to know that a call is currently in progress. Only the fact "call in progress / call ended" is used, to turn monitoring for suspicious activity during the call on or off.
Contacts - to tell a known number apart from an unknown one. The contact list is never copied or sent off the device - the comparison happens locally.
Usage access (recently used apps) - to detect suspicious activity on the device during a call. The app only sees the fact and time that apps from a predefined list were launched. Browsing history and the content of messages or other apps are never analyzed.
SMS - to send a short alert message to the guardian. The message is sent only when a suspicious situation is detected and contains a fixed short text (the protected person's name + a request to call back) and, for premium users who granted location permission, a map link (see Location). With the optional super premium, the app can also send a short weekly "all is well" status SMS to the guardian's numbers. The app does not read incoming or other SMS. The guardian's phone number, which you enter yourself, is used only to address the alert SMS; it is not stored anywhere except on your device.
Phone calls - the one-tap "Call" button for quickly reaching the trusted contact. Places a regular call to the specified number, nothing is recorded.
Notifications - to show the "STOP, this looks like a scam" warning. The notification is shown locally and is never sent to any analytics system.
Location (premium feature, optional) - if the premium option is on and the location permission is granted, the app adds a link to the device's last known approximate location to the alert SMS sent to the guardian. The location is read only at the moment of an alert, is not stored by the app, and is not sent anywhere except inside that SMS.
WHAT THE APP DOES NOT DO
Does not record or listen in on calls.
Does not read the content of SMS, messengers, or other correspondence.
Does not send user data to a developer server - the app simply has no server.
Does not sell or share data with third parties, ad networks, or analytics services.
Does not show ads and does not embed third-party tracking SDKs.
Does not track location: it is read only at the moment of an alert (premium) and included only in the SMS to the guardian.
WHERE DATA IS STORED
Settings (the protected person's name, trusted contact, guardian's phone number, lists of monitored apps) are stored locally on the device in the app's database. They are deleted along with the app when it is uninstalled and are never synced to the cloud. The app also keeps a local history of past alerts (time, what triggered it, and how many SMS were sent) on the device; it is deleted with the app. The user can export settings to a file and choose where to share it; the app does not upload it anywhere.
SMS ALERT TO THE GUARDIAN
If the app detects a suspicious situation, it sends a short SMS to the number the user designated as the guardian's number (additional recipients are a super premium feature), through the device's regular mobile carrier. This message is subject to the same conditions as an ordinary SMS sent manually from the phone (it may be charged by the carrier like any other SMS).
USER RIGHTS
The user can, at any time:
turn monitoring off completely (switch on the app's main screen);
revoke any granted permission through Android settings;
delete the app, which immediately deletes all locally stored data.
PURCHASES
Premium features are optional one-time purchases processed by Google Play Billing. Payment details are handled by Google; the app and the developer do not receive or store your card details.
CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
If there are significant changes to how the app processes data, this page will be updated and the date at the top of the document will change.
