PRIVACY POLICY
Puzzle Solver (Android)
Last updated: September 6, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Puzzle Solver (“the App,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), package name com.onemistry.puzzlesolver, handles information when you use the App on Android.
By using the App, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
1. WHO WE ARE
Puzzle Solver is a mobile application that helps you scan and solve puzzles such as Sudoku, Scrabble/Words With Friends-style boards, and anagrams.
Developer / publisher: OneMistry
Contact for privacy questions: privacy@onemistry.com
(Replace this email with your preferred contact address before publishing if different.)
2. SUMMARY
- We do not require you to create an account.
- We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or similar contact details to use the App’s core features.
- Camera and photo access are used only to scan puzzle boards. Puzzle image processing and OCR run on your device.
- We show advertising through Google AdMob. Google and its partners may collect device and advertising-related data as described in their policies.
- Optional word-definition lookups send the requested word to third-party dictionary APIs.
3. INFORMATION WE COLLECT AND HOW IT IS USED
3.1 Information you provide or generate on your device
When you use the App, certain data may be processed locally on your device, including:
- Puzzle board images captured with the camera or selected from your photo library
- Digits, letters, and board layouts recognized from those images
- Puzzle grids, tiles, racks, moves, and solutions you create or edit in the App
Camera and photo library access are used only to help you scan puzzles. Images are processed on your device for optical character recognition (OCR) and board detection. We do not operate a Puzzle Solver account system or Puzzle Solver cloud service that stores your puzzle photos or solutions.
3.2 Permissions
On Android, the App may request:
- CAMERA — to photograph physical puzzle boards for scanning
- READ_MEDIA_IMAGES / photo access — to select an existing image of a puzzle board from your device
You can deny these permissions. Without them, scan-from-camera or scan-from-gallery features will not work, but manual entry and solving features that do not need the camera or gallery may still be available.
3.3 Advertising (Google AdMob)
The App displays banner advertisements using Google Mobile Ads (AdMob).
Google and its advertising partners may collect and process information such as:
- Advertising ID / device identifiers
- IP address
- Device and app information (for example, device model, operating system, app version)
- Approximate location derived from IP address
- Ad interaction and performance data
This information is used to deliver, measure, and improve ads. We do not control Google’s data practices. Please review:
- Google Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
- How Google uses data from apps that use Google advertising services: https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads
- AdMob / Google Mobile Ads information for users: https://support.google.com/admob
You may reset or limit your advertising ID in your Android device settings (for example, under Google → Ads or Privacy settings, depending on your device and OS version).
3.4 Word definition lookups
If you look up a word definition in the App, the App may send that word (and related request metadata such as your IP address, as processed by the service provider’s servers) to third-party dictionary services, including:
- Datamuse API (https://www.datamuse.com/)
- Free Dictionary API (https://dictionaryapi.dev/)
These requests are made so the App can show definitions, phonetics, or related word information. We do not use those lookups to build a personal profile about you.
3.5 Information we do not intentionally collect
We do not intentionally collect:
- Names, postal addresses, or government ID numbers
- Payment card details (the App does not process payments for itself through an in-app checkout of our own)
- Precise GPS location
- Contacts, SMS, call logs, or microphone audio
- Health or biometric identifiers for identification purposes
OCR and camera features process images of puzzles; they are not used for facial recognition or identity verification.
4. HOW WE USE INFORMATION
Information processed by the App is used to:
- Provide puzzle scanning, OCR, editing, and solving features
- Show optional word definitions
- Display advertisements and support the App
- Maintain and improve App reliability and functionality
5. DATA SHARING
We do not sell your personal information.
Data may be processed by third parties solely as needed to operate the App’s features and advertising, including:
- Google (AdMob / Google Mobile Ads) for advertising
- Datamuse and Free Dictionary API providers for word definition lookups
- Device and platform providers (for example, Google Play / Android) as part of normal app distribution and device operation
Those third parties process data under their own privacy policies.
6. DATA RETENTION
Puzzle images and solutions processed for OCR and solving are handled on your device for the feature you are using. We do not maintain a Puzzle Solver cloud database of your photos or puzzle history.
Advertising and dictionary service providers retain data according to their own policies and retention periods.
7. CHILDREN’S PRIVACY
The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App in a way that concerns you, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
8. SECURITY
We take reasonable steps appropriate to the nature of the App. Because much of the core puzzle processing happens on your device, limiting unnecessary uploads reduces exposure. No method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure. Third-party services (ads and dictionary APIs) have their own security practices.
9. YOUR CHOICES AND RIGHTS
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict certain personal data, or to object to certain processing. Because we do not operate user accounts or a central Puzzle Solver user database for your puzzles, many requests relate to data held by third parties (especially Google advertising services).
You can:
- Revoke camera or photo permissions in Android Settings
- Limit ad personalization / reset advertising ID in device settings
- Stop using the App and uninstall it at any time
For privacy requests related to this App, contact: privacy@onemistry.com
10. INTERNATIONAL USERS
If you use the App outside the country where our services or third-party providers operate, your information (for example, advertising or dictionary lookup traffic) may be processed in other countries, including the United States, where data protection laws may differ.
11. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised policy. For material changes, we may provide additional notice in the App or on the Google Play listing when appropriate.
