In my engagement with Biochemistry within the Gastrointestinal Tract (GIT) Module, I've navigated through a diverse array of metabolic pathways outlined in the learning outcomes. This includes a detailed comprehension of carbohydrate digestion and absorption, glycolysis, the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex, and the Tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle. Furthermore, I've explored the intricate mechanisms of gluconeogenesis, glycogen metabolism, and the pentose phosphate pathway. Understanding these pathways has provided profound insights into the generation of energy and the synthesis of essential biomolecules within the GIT. Additionally, I've delved into lipid digestion, protein digestion, and the complex processes involved in nitrogen metabolism. This includes an understanding of ammonia metabolism, heme synthesis, and the catabolism of hemoglobin. Furthermore, the exploration of xenobiotic metabolism has broadened my understanding of drug metabolism and detoxification processes within the GIT.
