History of the Desert Park

The desert park is based on a real wadi, or water-filled ravine, located near Khor Fakkan. The shees (pronounced shays) is Arabic for a gully that runs with water. It’s part of an oasis that attracts species ranging from butterflies to dolphins and provides key habitats for many plants and animals native to the UAE.

Getting There

The massive desert oasis, located on a plateau east of Al Dhaid Road and west of Khor Fakkan, makes for an easy day trip. Al Diq is a 30-minute drive from Dubai International Airport and about an hour away from both Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah. Some companies that operate dune-buggy tours out of Dubai City offer pick-up services from locations in these emirates.
