3rd Grade

Week of 9/4/17 & 9/11/17

Students have been working hard to learn the proper technique for their recorder. They learned how to play the first 5 songs for their white belt, and where G,F, and E are on a treble clef.

Also, a permission slip went home this week for students to take their instruments home. As soon as their permission slip is turned in they may take their instrument and music home if permission has been granted by parents.

This week the recorders have come in! Students will be learning the proper technique of holding their instrument, sitting correctly to get good air support, and how to cover the holes. We will also be learning about woodwinds as an instrument. Students will begin to learn how to play the G and E on their recorder.

3rd graders this week will learn about the meter sign/time signature in music. They will also learn what an ostinato is and how we use patterns in music. Students will sing, play instruments, and move to music in a meter of 2,3, and 4.

This week students will be discovering how words are broken into syllables and how these syllables can determine the rhythm in music. We will be singing, and playing maracas to the song Shake the Papaya down, and Mama Don't Wake Me. Students will learn about work songs and how each culture has their own connection to them. We will then be overlapping the songs on top of each other to feel the difference in the rhythm and beat.

3rd graders this week will be learning about the rules of OMA class, how to play/treat instruments, and how to keep a steady beat. They will be moving, and singing to the beat.
